Website Review Requested Please review my site

Recommended Posts

I just launched my site, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, please tell me what you think. It is a website design and management discussion forum. It's brand new, so changes are still to come. Be sure to tell anybody that needs design help to go there

The content of the forums is copyrighted. I'm thinking of changing it to a creative commons license, but I want to wait until it starts getting active.

I'm not sure what you mean by this...

well, the last comment was a joke seeing that it is a newly created forum and you have hardly advertized it. i see your posts all over the place on trap. you have been a member for 3 days and you have 80 posts. believe me, as you know, i've been watching  and the only posts i saw on your forum came from YOU ;) anyway, a joke none the less...

as far as copywriting forum posts, i beg to differ. that's why i was curious what was copywrited. you see, copyright is bound by "original works of authorship and forum posts doesn't fall under this catagory. it's just like saying you own the copyright of someone's picture when they upload their picture.....haha that's ridiculous. content is the same bud. the only way you would own copywrite to forum posts is if you paid someone to post for your forum. you don't know much about that symbol at the bottom of your webpage, do you. in fact, posting a copyright isn't required for a copyright to exist. a copyright exists automatically when you complete the finished product. you don't need the symbol. it may act as a deterent to steal, but it's not needed to keep a copyright. also, your site is powered by another company so that can't be copywrited either. the only thing that could possibly be copywrited is the layout if you modified it and it's original.

if you are telling me your forum content is copywrited by you, then i would like to know where you are getting your information. just by saying you own the posts and content can get you sued for fraud and deception even if you don't make a dime off that website. be carefull what you do and say. i keep testing your knowledge and it seems you're always getting caught in a web that you create. i don't mean to sound harsh, but stick to what you know from now on

btw....as far as content that other people place on your website, alot of times it can be argued that you would legally have a license to distribute, but the author of the post will have the full copyright.

again though, if by chance you still think you have a copyright on forum posting, i would like to know where you got this information and i will appologize to ya if i am wrong

To be honest, the joke sucked, considering the forum was up for a very, very minimal amount of time (hours) when I posted this thread. Getting members isn't as easy as you make it seem. As far as my level of posting on this forum, that isn't dependent on me getting hosting nor is it relevant in this discussion at all.

The forum software is copyrighted by Jaia Interactive.

The page as presented is copyrighted by Designify. The forum has redistribution rights to any content posted. (This applies to original postings, and not quoted content or copyrighted content that a poster took without permission)

Theoretically, the poster has a copyright, but it's of little use considering they volunteered the content into the public domain.

Aesthetically, the green gives a little shock to the eyes at first but I got used to it within a few seconds. Your forum certainly has a different look from any other that I've seen before (that's a good thing since it means that it's very unique and doesn't look generic). I'll make one other small comment on the graphics though, the color of the search area seems to clash with the look of the forum as a whole. It just kind of sticks out against all the white, black and green (at least the way I'm seeing it with rendering by the Opera browser).Other than that, I like it a lot. It's very clean and crisp. The sudden shock of green is, again, a little distracting at first, but nothing too big. I'm just curious, did you build this forum from scratch or did you use a certain system to get started with it. I'd like to know what language(s)/system(s) you used in creating the forum, if that's okay with you.

Well since it is the default skin for the MyTopix forum software I would have to say its a descent skin colors work well. Now for "your site" you need more and I mean a lot more, yeah your starting out which is fine and dandy but personally there is not much to review on your site since all you did was install a forum. So add more content and stuff like that and have your site re-reviewed again for a more better opinion on what your site is about.

First of all it's my first post and i want to say hello to everybody. When we talk about the website, i didn't any site when following the given link. It was just a forum. Now it's time to seperate a website from a forum. You have to decide what you want from a website, what's your goal, first you have to determine the goal. A default forum with a fantastic skin can not be named a website even if it has no members. On the other hand if you mean the design as 'my website' actually it is not enough to talk about a website. So, we have to ask ourselves what is my purpose to be reviewed.

It's a discussion forum, and nothing else.

Last post was directed at you. A forum alone can definetly be considered a website.

(Sorry for the double post, should have just edited it.)

you don't like my jokes when i try to make light of something and not so serious tone? sorry

anyway, thanks for clearing that up. originally you said the forum content was copywrited so i was unclear what you meant.

and redistribution rights is of consequence. that is not a copyright. why trap obviously requires quoting which i got my acount suspended for 10 days because i didn't quote. honest mistake none the less, but i say that because you still can't use what people post for your own gain. yes, they posted it publically, but it's still theirs.

there was talk a long long time ago about how users should have the right to delete any of their posts. they don't since redistribution right on the form thread is implied when someone publishes something somewhere so i wanted to clear up any misconception of copyright that you may have had with forum content

as far as getting members. yea bud, it's hard, but a little time and effort and dedication can do wonders. secret is to offer something that few people offer. quality content and content people can rely on will be important on any forum. refer to my email.

so like i said in my email, you seem like a smart guy and capable of a lot. put it to good use. as far as your posts, yes, it was relevant when you wanted me to go to your site and review it. so i beg to differ on what you think was relevant. i reviewed it and made a little joke relating it to Xisto

now if you are serious about keeping the forum and promoting it, i wish you all the best. it's a good start, a little generic, but i'm sure if you're serious about it, you can do wonders in making things happen. if you need advice or help, post it. i like helping people more than i do questioning them ;)

I like the design and the color scheme!Your website is also friendly to slow internet users, but I think most of those are gone now;Maybe if you added a simple -x or even -y background on the main background and the post boxes your site would look sleek and more web 2.0 compatible! If you made the border colors a little closer to the background color's that would also help on the eye.The coding looks good, congratulations!

Well this should be discussion about that site page call it whatever you like and not flame wars about joke. To me it looks to simple especially if it is forum based for the kind of peaople who are going to discuss design as those people oppose to some other like computer geeks who usually don't have an eye for nice and so on. But to not go into offtopic. In my oppinion if this forum will be based on the design and so on you should make it more an eye candy. If you don't know how to do it then you should go and check for some other template of experienced guys and check it out, or even start from there to gain idea. This was my two cents.
