A Key Board Made Of Light!

Ive just been reading about the "projector keyboard" its so sweet! it sines a light on ur desk, and u just touch the light and the keys work!!!

No words can adequately describe quite how breathtakingly cool this i.Tech Virtual Keyboard is. Bluetooth enabled, it uses infrared to project a clear and crisp keyboard onto your desktop, and then transfers your keystrokes via wireless networking to your Computer/Laptop - it sounds far too futuristic to be true. But it's very much for real, and it's awesome

 

This gadget is about half the size of your average deck of cards, sits wirelessly on any flat surface, and projects a red standard layout keyboard on any flat surface. Using detection technology it "watches" your fingers hit the key locations it has projected, and then sends the keystrokes through to your PC via Bluetooth.

 

The projected keyboard is highly visible even in strong light (though it does of course look spectacularly cool in the dark). It's highly portable as well, though it will make you look a bit of a lunatic at the local, as you will look like you're typing on nothing more than the pub table (which also raises some serious health and safety concerns), and you will of course be interrupted every fourteen seconds with someone coming over and wanting to know where they can get one.

 

There is no cooler keyboard in the known universe.

Well I dont know what other people think but personally I like it, Its a nice colour the effect is nice and its not to rough... But the thing the lights coming from looks like a mobile phone from the eighties (Unsure if I spelt it right).

 

Oh and I have one question.. Did you make this or find the image on the internet?

The Keyboard looks really awesome. You could use it on any surface. Imagine you could spread a soft velvet cloth on your tabletop and thump away. Really innovative

This is very interesting, but I don't think it will replace my keyboard. It'd be extremely strange to try and touch type on that thing, and it just wouldn't be as comfortable for me banging my fingertips on a hard table and pressing wouldn't be as definite on a block of foam. But I'd really like it, though. When I change keymaps I might be able to actually see the keymap change! This would be great if I were using an emulator for a Commodore, or using a foreign keymap and my fingers get confused. Plus, It'd make it a great showpiece - one minute it's normal and then with the press of a key it changes to Greek or even Runes.

They've had this for quite a while. I don't think i'd like it too much.. I need some kind of reaction when i press a key... Right now if I accidently press a key next to the key I meant to press I can tell... I'm not sure about this. But i suppose that computers need to be getting smaller and they can't do that with bulky things like keyboards and screens anymore, so perhaps this is the future? Wait I've got an idea. How about we put a mini projector and a computer in a keyboard and you just put the keyboard on your lap and aim it at a wall. Now that would be an awesome computer. Just the keyboard! Aha! I think I'm going to make a topic about this under My Theories!

They've already got a keyboard that can do that. Its a regular keyboard with a mini lcd screen on each key. Here's a pic:

I saw this on CSI miami, looks pretty cool but it would never replace my keyboard, it just wouldn't feel right unless my fingers are actaully pressing down on something, not tapping my desk. and touch typing would be a problem, because you won't feel the contour of the keys which alot of people use for touch typing... This is a good idea espiecially for business men/women who has those PDA/Laptops and with those really tiny keys, it'll also be a good gadget to show off at your local computer convention or something...

Yeh, i want an Optimus OLED Keyboard. However, it costs a bomb at about 1564.37 US$ for a mere keyboard. By the way, i guess it's not waterproof. Don't feel like owning one other than some reliable and affordable keyboards that exist well enough as a brandname.

Yes it is quite expensive... I've never seen a keyboard with a lock on it to keep people from stealing it

What if I need to use the keyboard in the open i.e. where there is bright sunlight

The light coming from the device doesn't seem to be bright enough... and I doubt that the image (of the keys) would be clearly visible

These keyboards seem nice but I prefer just buying a normal usb keyboard for my desktop or laptop since I prefer not use the laptop keyboard unless its an emergency.

Hmmm... i just got a wireless keyboard about 2 months ago... and i was so happy with myself becausei had the coolest keyboard in my eyes. I could sit in my chair with the keyboard on my lap and just type away. Now i feel very out dated. haha. Is it really infrared light? is it some special frequency. I thought you couldn't see infrared light. Now, granted,you cant see it in the air, but you can see it on a table... like a lazer. At first i though that maybe the sound of your fingers hitting a table would sound annoying after a while,but you can project that keyboard on any surface! I wonder how that would work on a not-so-flat surface?Or even a slightly inclined surface? Maybe the device should have (or already has) some type of keystone setting like on a projector.I definitely want one!
