Opinions On A Redesign

Recommended Posts

At the moment I have just changed the style of the entrance page to my site, becuase it's going to take quite a while to do a Wordpress theme and I don't want to start that if this is not well received. At the moment my site is very simple and is done entirely with CSS colouring, apart from the image at the top of my blog. I basically want to unify all parts of my site with one style and tie the whole lot together.

It will all be based off my main page here: Rob's Blog.

What do you think of that design, and do you think it would be a good idea to try and base the rest of my site off of that image and style?

That's a very nice entrance page! I really like how the text is imprinted into the mountain! I also like the simplicity in your blog layout.I would recommend integrating the links to the galleries and puzzles/flash in your blog rather than on the first page. That way people can find them easier and don't have to go back to the first page to click them. Also, I think there should be a background color on your splash page, or make the picture fill up the whole screen. It would be VERY cool if you wrote a tutorial on how to make your splash page's picture and posted in Xisto!

Glad to hear that you like it! The other responses I've had have also (luckily) been positive :lol:Making the picture fill the whole screen is possible, the original dimensions of the whole image were 1600 x 1129 which should be OK for most people, although some may get sort of "letterbox bars" at the top and bottom. As for my blog, I may redesign the theme to fit in with that image, and add a horizontal navigation below the title block at the top, linking to the other sections of my site. Luckily I have the Christmas school holidays coming so I can work on it then. I may also use that time to get a tutorial up on how to make that effect.

I like the background of the enterance page but i dont think it is the easiest to find out where to go from there. I would make the text a bit larger and maybe make them an image so that the text will fit your background a bit better.

To add a bit to Dooga post about your content what I recommend is setting up a transparency block with in your image and then have your content blend in with that. Then you don't have to make different pages for your stuff and so you can work on that picture.

Transparency set up (give or take)

Only thing that gets me is the the text "rob blog" it stands way to much or at least the color does. A suggestion would be to darking it just a bit and then work with hte layer properties and adjust the the inner shadow to adjust for the change. It gives it a more blended look and also doesn't stand out to much.

Maybe add a border and drop shadow of 2 0 2 to the picture could help out with it as well.

well, you could always assume that the users viewing that page would be those that aren't using dial-up. but of course that's not always the case. but anyway, you really don't need to make the image bigger than that. actually it's far better if you left it like at that size or even smaller. the technique of splicing the images is a great thing to do so it makes the loading faster. and also make use of a background color to match the image.i do like the image (especially the name imprinted on the mountain). and if you're going to make a wordpress layout, better have the similar theme as that of the start page. i'm also making a wordpress layout myself but that would have to wait since i'm doing some major stuff right now.

I as well like that entrance page. Pretty cool photoshop work you did there, or whatever it is, but I like the title imprinted into the mountain, you make it look pretty natural too. I like your intro page, but the other pages seem to be lacking in comparison to the intro page. It appears real strong, but then when you click on other links the design of your site seemed to be a bit rushed. It looks like you spent alot of time making your intro image, but then forgot about alot the rest of the site design, such as subpages, borders, banners, that sorta thing. Reconsider those. Maybe put some time into them. It seems like you know a decent amount about image editing and graphic design, just put some work into those subpages and I'd be loving the overall site design.Keep us posted, I'd love to see it once you get some more stuff on there.
