Free Domain Registration -- No Such Thing

Recommended Posts

HEHE ... of course you're intrested in that ... You're so intrested ... and you know why ??? ... because it's impossible !!Free hosting is possible because the host doesn't pay for anything, he already has his host running, and he probably has other things that get him payed for that, so he won't lose anything if he gives you few megs for free ...As for domain names, a minimum of 8 $ must be payed to register them to ICANN, for that no one offers them for free ... unless you do something for them that will cost you a lot more

I'm pretty sure he means that the topic of free domain names in general isn't free. I may be wrong but i think that he means that the provider who gives you the domain is losing money. As he said it costs a minimum of $8 to register them. He probably means domains such as .com and .net or .org, whereas many people think that the domains that they are using are free, when they are actually sub domains or not very good at all. There are many topics here at Xisto about said domains, so if you are unsure what im talking about or unsure what i mean then i suggest you use the search button or look in the freebies section.

Hey there .... well, what i mean by domain name is something like this :

yourname.com or yourname.net or yourname.biz or yourname.org

not like this ! : yourname.someone'sname.net

But if you are relly getting .com or .net domain names for free !!!!!!

Then please share with us how you are doing that

Giving free host also cost you. Nothing is free in this big blue world. Xisto for example probably pays a lot of money to keep a host running with good quality, but the forums pay off (doesn't it?). So if they have 500 members, it would be nescessary a lot of resources: 75gb of space and 2500gb of bandwidth to host them all. Now look how much will a host like this cost (and a GOOD quality host). But I think free domains could be true if they used a similar system. They just have to invent some way to make people earn them money and buy the domains. :blink:That's what I think, I may be wrong but I have the right to speak darnit! ;) lol

phpfreek is right you cannot get totally free domains without having to do something first like posting a couple of hundred posts in a forum so you may as well just buy one. also it is true that $8 must be paid to ICANN per domain so domains cannot be made free unless you make a custom extension. So by the time you have spent a couple of months posting you may as well just buy one as it only takes 5 minuits.

Lets recap on domains!

Domains are in three types:

Domains: .com/.net/.biz/.co.uk/.de/.fr/. - They'd cost you money, you sometimes can get them with lots of ads or stuff or you could get free one's from reward sites, ezrewards for example.

Subdomains: .trap17.net/.trap17.com/.freehost.com/ freewebs.com/ and others like that. They are mostly always free!

Also free redirection: .co.nr/.tk/.likes.it/ - They're not real domains, they just redirect things like: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. You can usally make them cover the big adress, so it says .co.nr or something like that on the whole site.

Thankyou,
BBen Teach.

You got your domain from ezyrewards. It is true that you don't pay ''money'' for the domain, but in another way you are paying effort and energy to make referreals and sign-ups to sites. So technically it is not free.A domain is free when they don't ask a thing for it like .co.nr you just register your domain and Voilŕ it's yours!!

But if you are relly getting .com or .net domain names for free !!!!!!
Then please share with us how you are doing that

He got it from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Just do a couple of referrals and some sign-ups, and get your domain.
Dowling you should have said the site!

i got my first FREE domain 5 years ago. i got my second, and third FREE domains more than a year ago. so, yes, there are FREE domain registrations -- if you can find them. :blink:you just have to be on the lookout for DOMAIN REGISTRARS which provide these FREE domain offers, with a small catch -- you can have it only FREE for one year, then after the one-year period, you will then have to RENEW it for an annual fee. and it's not easy to transfer your domains you registered from them to another registrar that easily, in case you find a cheaper domain renewal fee offer from other registrars. more often, you'd pay a premium to be able to do that. that's the downside.but hey, if you want it FREE, then a year is better than nothing at all. ;) in my case, after my free registered domains expired, i didn't consider paying the annual renewal fee. i can't stick with a domain i can call my own yet, which i'd want to use year after year after year. so until then, such free domain offers will be good for me. (but don't ask me where i got my domains -- the offers have LAPSED already. if i get wind of another, i'll be posting it here at Xisto ;))

yea as already mentioned nothing is free, sometimes free is meant if you dont pay hard cash for it , but the methods you would have to do is almost always more painful then paying with real money , only you are not aware you are spending money because you did not give your credit card number and purcahased it , but just think about this , sitting at you r computer from morning to night doing nothing but clicking on banners, referrals, signing up in countless number of sites , agree to recieve newsletters, give out the email addresses of anyone you can think of, now after all this and i am sure there will be more , this is just what i can think of right now , yea after all this if you are really determined to get it for "free" i guess you can get one in two three days, now i believe nobody gets internet connection or elcetricity "freely" so what comes on your internet and electricity bill itself will be a thousand times costlier than buyin a domain, not to mention all the mental stress and and the urge to click click click and get it as soon as possible , and god only knows how many times after a click or signing up for spam you go back to home page or wahtever page your score is .. lol , of course i have exaggerated unjustly but i hope you will get a clear idea that in these when everyone has run out of options to make money a "free" thing is the most expensive thing you will be buying without even the knowledge of the price you are paying ,god knows how many times i cursed at him when i am searching for something and is unnecessarily and silently led into trap  so never believe it when somone says it is free

There is such thing as "free" domains. Yes, I mean .com, .net, .org, ect. I once got a free .info domain. I didn't pay ANYTHING. I don't know how these are free, but they are, so, whoever says they aren't free, you're wrong. Do some more reaserch before you post.

domains may say they are free but their is always a hidden catch, trust me - ive trid to do the same thing - offer free domains to my clients, i can offer them free domains but it would mean that id have to raise the price of hosting to cover the cost of a domain. A cost will always come into a domain whether it be the registrant having to pay ICANN $8 to use a domain or a person having to pay a renewal fee. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A COST INVOLVED.$12 for a domain name MusicOnly, that's a rip off you can register them for as little at 2 to 3 dollars.
