Shoutbox Bans And Unbans.

Kubi

Not often are we faced with the task of banning a member from the shoutbox(I make it sound hard). But when this does happen, we usually delete the shouts, for one reason or another. Do to the fact that I'm being asked by a member to be unbanned from the shoutbx, and I can't find any of his shouts, I suggest that we store the shouts for referance. The member is Danny, he was banned oh so long ago for posting links and being rude. He wants unbanned, I can't find his shouts to do it.I think we should have a mod center in the shoutbox, that will list all the banned shouters, so we can easily unban them.now I know OpaQue is on leave so I don't expect this to get done soon, but what do you guys think of the idea?Is it possible?

Dooga

I'm sure there already is some run-down version of the moderator centre in the shoutbox, we just don't know where....????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I couldn't find it either. All I could find was a link for "Ignored Shouters" which is not a Banned shouter.Anyway, not to Hijack the thread, but another Mod Centre feature I would like to ask for is to have a link where Mods can review the Bans and Warnings they have issued. For example, a list of all the Warnings I have issued that have never been reversed so that I could review the member's history and then decide whether to remove the warning. As far as I know, there is no method for a Mod to keep track of the Warnings they have issued and remove them in a timely manner. If there is a way to do that, I am simply not aware of it.Admins must have access to that info?

BuffaloHelp

Under Admin's access control I can see the list of current banned members and unban them. If you believe this "Danny" character has changed I will unban from the shoutbox. However, when a moderator bans a member from the shoutbox it is usually for a good reason (including banning from posting). Therefore my view is that Danny should not be unbanned. He can learn from his mistake and make another forum account. This is the price he pays for not following our forum and shoutbox rules.

Saint_Michael

I only could imagine what the ban count is, I think i got at least 25% of bans under my name.Although I have to disagree about creating another account just to use the shoutbox it just throws numbers off and with all these multiple accounts it make things cluttered.

BuffaloHelp

I guess I'm making a tough stand...by making my policy never to "unban" a member once ban is placed. This is to show unison character of firm and enforcement of singular rule. Ban issuing is very serious and should not be taken lightly in our forum, or any forum place. Ban is not to be used to flick someone by the ear for good attention--that's what the warning is for. I would not place higher concern on the actual membership number verses going back on ban placed by a moderator. But if Danny should be unbanned please let me know

Kubi

Well, I suppose the way he acted when I banned him from the shoutbox a long time ago, wasn't the best...

http://forums.xisto.com/topic/33930-omg-i-got-banned-lol/

Here's his PM:

Hmm.. wow. Loong time since i been here. I wont do it again for sure. I never got un banned...

He was only banned from the shoutbox. Maybe we should give him a chance?

BuffaloHelp

The tribe has spoken... lol kidding. Very well, KuBi. Danny is unbanned from our shoutbox.

Kubi

Alright, thank you. I'll let him know. I've actually seen a lot of good posts from him lately. :]

Dooga

About the warnings (@ jlhaslip)...᠌It is actually good to not have a moderator cpanel that shows the people you've banned. If the person was a good contributer, and makes lots of useful posts, most moderators would realize this when they're browsing the forum. For example, I always click on everyone who has a warning when I see them, and I see when they are warned, for what reason, and what time. Then I might lower the warning count when it's the right thing to do, or I might leave it. This encourages members (especially those who have been warned) to improve their behavior, and improve exposure, which would make moderators see them easier.????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

!. No, there is no way for moderators to unban people from the shoutbox if their shouts are deleted.2. Yes, the only way you can do so at that point is for an admin to do it through the admin cp.3. Just make it a point to not delete ALL of the person's shouts. If they're ALL offensive, leave one and edit it to something like <offensive shout removed>.

BuffaloHelp

It would be hard to unband a member from a shoutbox when OpaQue purges previous shouts. Please don't hesitate to contact me for shoutbox unban issues. But basically I want to stress the point that once a member is banned, unbanning from our shoutbox shouldn't be considered. This goes the same with posting ban.I am thinking that this may look "soft" on our moderating capabilities. My thought is that I don't care if a member dislikes me or not...I'm not about to have rogue members ruin my fee web hosting service
