Uploading Files ?? allowed on website ??

electriic ink

I was wondering if you're allowed to have a file upload form on your website - a form where users could upload their files on to the server.

I am thinking of adding one on to my site under the following conditions:

Only images would be allowed

Images would only be stored on the server for five minutes, then deleted

I'm just wondering if other staff members can give their opinion or better still if BH or OpaQue can confirm.

Kubi

There is a script for this, but I'm not sure where you can find it. I've seen it on websites before. But why'd you want to have it deleted after 5 minutes? I wouldn't understand that. And I'm sure since you're only having it on for 5 minutes, then deleting the image, it'd be allowed. As long as it's not inappropriate images. Also make sure people don't abuse it.

But why'd you want to have it deleted after 5 minutes? I wouldn't understand that.

I'm thinking of offering an image-resizing service. Files only need to be on the server for ~5 mins, long enough for people to save the image on their HDD.

Kk, I'll go ahead with it then, unless anyone objects...

Trap17 EPSILON server (this forum's hosting server) has enough space to host gallery, and forum uploading feature. And so, I don't fully understand your question and intension. Why should a member use your site when they should be smart enough to use forum's gallery for images and post global file upload for other files?

Kubi

I'm thinking he wants to do it on his own site incase people aren't signed up here. Many people don't like have to sign up to places just to use the service, well, I've learned that in my experience. And does Xisto resize images? I think that's the main intention of this. I think it's intended as just a resizing type thing.

The site's primary function atm is to allow visitor's to RESIZE images NOT to HOST them. Therefore images need only be stored on the server for 5 minutes, enough for people to save their RESIZED image.I've seen other sites like it and they've become quite popular. There will be other things on there too, it's not just that...

BuffaloHelp

I made a post about http://resizepic.com/

Is this something similar to what you're talking about?

And yes, Xisto Gallery has resizing function but it shrinks large size to maximum allowed dimension. But it does not have the capability to resize to arbitrary dimension.

Yes.

BuffaloHelp

Ah, so you want to write something similar for your own hosting? Sure, by all means! Instead of giving someone else the web traffic, let's keep it all in the "family" so to speak :DPS just a feature project I've been working on: I can request a subdomain from Xisto, i.e. annex.trap17.com or develop.trap17.com or labs.trap17.com. I'd like to use this subdomain to host cPanel demo pages, experimental codes/projects, Xisto community (I thought it was fun when members contributed a picture of a building to make a Xisto town) etc.Would you like to feature your service script there when it becomes final?

1. Ahh, good good. * Continues working *
2. I like that idea
3. Absolutely.

Well, hold on to this project for a moment.

Looks like OpaQue just finished his own "project" and this new project does all of what we have been discussing.

Please do not release this information to the public until OpaQue is satisfied with everything.

ImageFilez has been acquired by Xisto Corporation.

Please do not release this information to the public until OpaQue makes the official announcement.

Thank you.

PS, Imagefilez lets you upload, resize, image host etc...

a very good addition to the xisto network. that should bring in additional ad-serving views. hope it can soon help sustain and improve our Xisto free hosting further, like bigger & better packages, additional and faster servers, etc.

Saint_Michael

yeah good thing about advertising that, money shot after money shot is uploaded on there and some of the stuff on there trying to figure out how they can do that without breaking something ouch.
