Anyone Here Ever Made A Mod? did a couple

Recommended Posts

I did a couple of mods for neverwinternights. Wrote tons and tons of code for it (I think I did about 5000 scripts that time). Always began very ambitious and then after it became too big I stopped and started over. Only once released a small demo (and lots of haks and scripts I made while making mods) and got some pretty good fanmail about it (and yes, I had waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much spare time back then). Has anyone else here had any mod experience? Just curious.

Yeah, I used make mods for The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind. I made one that completely relocated the town called balmora, I changed everything, the river became a lake, I moved the temple, removed some unimporant rocks/trees, add new houses and a temple garden. I added loads of other cool stuff aswell. It took me about 2 months to finish it, and I was really proud of it. I was totally sick of the orginal town, and my new one was way more fun to explore!

I wrote a few mods for diablo 2: lord of descruction. They could get pretty complex sometimes, i mostly used visual basics because that was the easiest way to make most of them. Scriptting is always annoying to do, i wrote like 10,000 lines of script in one of the bots i made for diablo. I will never do that much again and i took a break on making mods for that game for awhile.

Usually I experiement a lot with my games privately, I have never released anything really major. This is partly because I find I was too ambitious and thought I had more free time than what I actually did, or I lost interest. Losing interest is my main problem - I either get new ideas very quickly or don't take the time needed to learn some tools necessary to make a decent mod (primarily mapping or modeling tools).I did do some heavy modifications to Duke Nukem 3D back in the day, even though I was pretty young at the time (about 12 or so, maybe 13) I actually came up with some pretty cool stuff. I never really released any of that. After that I moved on to Quake and screwed around with that for a while. It was almost too complicated for me at the time, but that didn't stop me from attempting to make some multiplayer mods. Now it is outdated, so I guess I'll never know if I could have finished those projects or not.I dabbled very, very lightly in Half-Life. It was very complex for me at the time and seemed to big for me to handle. Now I am starting to sift through the Half-Life 2 source code, and although it is still somewhat complex, I am having an easier time grasping the overall design of the game. It will take time before I can make something actually useful and original, though.

I began making a mod for Vice City, I stopped cause modding GTA is pretty hard, it made the game with super heroes, it was weird, it's hard to explain, if I find the mod/ source code I'll post them...
