Found A New Way To Edit Topic Titles I think it due ot the upgrade but dont know

Saint_Michael

while browsing at topics to looks at got this bubble when I hover over a topic title it says click and hold to edit.In which the text cell changes color and then you can edit the topic title or topic description.Hopefully I'm no the only one who seen this as now it makes it even faster to edit a topic title and such.

something ajaxy? yup, been using it for quite some time already to edit misspelled topic titles & description.the thing is, you can only use the "ajaxy" edit functionality when you browse the forum/subforum index (where you get a listing of topics for each forum/subforum). this doesn't seem to work though when you "View New Posts". it would be nice if this edit feature is implemented there as well, so we don't have to dig in, so to speak.

I'll suggest all the mods to please dont use this feature. I know this is very easy and simple way of editing the topic title but what happens is that the URL doesnt change and remains short, when that method is used.

for e.g. if the topic title is NEW WAY then URL of that thread will be : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or similar....and if you'll change the topic title to "Found A New Way To Edit Topic Titles" using that method the URL will still remain the same and then the change of topic title will be of NO USE. The old method will change the URL to something like this : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and that's the main reason of the descriptive topic title.

it works, dude! i made a test post in the Test Post forum (just to be safe, in case your observation is correct ). after messing up with my test topic title there via the ajax-edit, i found out you just need to refresh the forum index where you edited a title, and the change will be reflected accordingly on the SE-optimized URL.

also, if you noticed the sample links you provided above (which goes to this thread), both works. seems like the DB saves all changes to title edits.

my conclusion then is that it is safe to use it.

That's so ridiculously cool...Makes me wanna go find stuff to edit. Or close/open.That's almost as cool as quick edit.

Dooga

Well I knew most of the features already :)Anyone know any more important AJAX features yet to be found?

@kubi well I know its been on for awhile it was never really mentioned. But I wonder though anyone test this stuff out on a regular members account at all. especially the open and closed topics?btw way tested it on ie 7 same results which is a good thing I guess, I wonder if they updated their instructions for this on a read me or something.

Johnny

I was also wondering about normal members...I hope it's a moderator-only ability. I'm sure it is, but if not, we could have some problems.

BuffaloHelp

Only mods and admins are able to do "click and hold" edit feature. Tested with a regular member and it's all safe.

Dooga

Care to give regular member's ID and pass? I need a regular member to test out some things that I think normal members have, but in fact, don't. (It would certainly be helpful in making that tutorial that's long due)
