Adding Cms To A Website

I normally use an online cms but the site I used for it no longer exists. I was wondering once you download the cms what do you do? *confused* this is soooo much more complicated then doing everything online.

well the best thing you can do is find the read me file that comes with the cms download that you got, there you should be able to find the instructions on how to upload all the files you need to get it running. A big suggestion I have is get winrar installed on your computer and then extract the files using winrar. in doing that you have all the files sorted and seperated and all you need to do is get a ftp program and upload them using that and then go from there.

well there are many kinds of cmses. cms means Content managment system and is used to update many sites at once without having to edit each file by itself. the way it usualy works is you have one master template/skin and all the content is put into that. if you downloaded a program then its probably going to give you some html files which you can upload with ftp here to trap when you have your hosting. in your template you can choose where you want lets say the content. and then in a diffrent file you have the content for news, links ect and it generates the site putting the content of your content files into the template. webcmses like xoops or somehting do the same basicly. and they have the admin interface that enables you to do everything wihtout knowing the tinyest bit of html or php or anything. you onlyhave to know it if you want to make a template other than the standart one but theres alwyas people you can ask or download some. but when it comes to websites: originality is the key :)hope this helped you

Firstly, you must tell us which cms. Because I usually download cms for using online. I have never used any cms for intranet or offline purpose. And I also want to ask you which cms you are talking about. Because there are many cms today. CMS simply is an abbreviation of Content Management System.

There is hardly any cms I have not tried using online from php-nuke, post-nuke, dragonfly-cms, phpWebsite, to Xoops, mambo, joomla, drupal, etomite, e107 and others.

To respond to your answer, I usually download cms to get the latest version because what we get in Fantastico in webhosting Cpanel are not always the latest and if we just install we need to upgrade again. Because of that I usually download.

If you want to know how to install on the web of any particular cms, you can read REAM ME files and INSTALLATION guide that comes along with those cms.

Then they should have instructions on how to install, probably some server side script. And voila it works. YOu usually have to change permissions and stuff on files too. Overall, just READ THE INSTRUCTIONS/README and it's very easy.

try to make it offline first by using desktop server like vertrigo or apache2triad and then when you satisfied with your installation and configuring your cms options the next step is just edit the server info and upload the whole cms scripts within database to your hosting provider

most of the CMS have pre-installation script so,It's easy Just upload the zipped file and extract ,that follow step by step ,It's easy

not so hard, find a simple CMS first and upload everything to server and with mamboo and joomla you get a list of things you need to do when you goto /install/install.php things that need changing from 644 or 666 to 777 or similer plus MySQL can be tricky alwasy look for install.txt or readme.txt anything

I think the main point of ashleigh is uploading the CMS, for me its OK if we make/build our website in OFFLINE. we use localhost and local database, use apache or php triad. after its complited all we upload our site in local to our site host. just compres our site (localsite) then uploaded in specified folder. then link your domain name to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ specified folder
