Search In Website Whats the best way?

Ok so I'm trying to integrate a website-wide search engine into my site, and rather than going through the million different options, I figured the best feedback I can get would be from actual people who have previously done this. What's the best option, and/or is there a recommended script I can use rather than build my own? The website's pretty expansive, and will be continually growing and expanding, with new pages added at least weekly, if not daily. Plus current pages will be updated on a weekly basis. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I don't mean to hijack your post, but I am in a very similar situation, I would like to be able to have a search type function on my site except I would like to mainly search through a directory, sort of like a search on a shopping website.

if you have an adsense account, you can easily add the search code with your adsense ID. this further monetizes searches coming from your site. if your site gets indexed by google, the googlebot will spider your site regularly.

as for wansuen, are you planning to use canned scripts for your directory? or are you going to do the programming yourself?

Well I don't know much of anything beyond HTML, and kind of confused as to how this will work exactly, but I just looked at the scripts in the cpanel under fantastico. Would one of those be able to do what I am looking for? I was thinking of having a directory for kung fu schools, so basically like the schools name, style, location, website, and email. maybe a little more, I haven't really given it enough thought yet. I really just trying to find something that I might be able to get some traffic to.

those fantastico scripts may work, but not as specific as you'd want it to be though like in your example. you may want to try the content management scripts in fantastico, and see something which fits your requirements, and which you can work in with some degree of comfort (it's always fairly difficult at first, but you'll get the hang of it. ). most if not all of those have search functionality included already so you don't need to figure out how to manage search on your intended site.
