I Feel Strongly About This

bluesierra

I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture.
Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However...... the dust from the attacks
had barely settled when the "politically correct! "
crowd began complaining about the possibility that
our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a
grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life
by coming to ! America.

Our population is almost entirely made up of
descendants of immigrants. However, there are a
few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to
understand.

This idea of America being a multicultural community
has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our
national identity.

As Americans...... we have our own culture, our
own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.
This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men
and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic,
Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language.
Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society,
learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not
some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We
adopted this motto because Christian men and women...
....on Christian principles............. founded this nation..... and this is clearly documented.
It is certainly appropriate to display it on the
walls of our schools.

If God offends you, then I suggest you consider
another part of the world as your new home.........
because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like
Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a
move to another part of this planet.

We are happy with our culture and have no desire to
change, and we really don't care how you did things
where you came from.

This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle.
Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every
opportunity to do so!
But once you are done complaining....... whining......
and griping....... about our flag....... our pledge....
our national motto........or our way of life....
I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other
Great American Freedom.......

THE RIGHT TO LEAVE...................!

INCREDIBLE!I agree with you 100%. It's really sad how the principle at our school won't say "Merry Christmas" because she doesn't want to offend Jews, Muslims, etc. People really have become to obssessed with making sure everyone else is happy before we take care of ourselves. It is our country. On a side note, I heard that in southern Arizona the only language spoken is Spanish. There is no English anywhere. That's just sad that we've given away a part of our own country to another group of people...

*falls off chair..gets back up* Amazing. That is the type of thing I have been meaning to say all along but you hit the nail on the head! America, like all other countries, has a culture and way of living, and although it is not bad for people to come here for a better life, I think it is dumb for them to hold onto their old culture since they are searching for a new life in a country with a different culture. Great post, keep up the good work.

I agree. And I feel offended when people don't allow us to say Merry Christmas. It's Freedom of Religion not Freedom From Religion. If someones a jew tell them Happy Hannukah, if someones a muslim tell them Happy Ramadan. For Catholics and Christians our day is Christmas and we should be allowed to celebrate our day. But unfortunately lots of these corporations use Christmas as a profit. I have nothing against Santa Claus, but these types of things take away the purpose of why we celebrate Christmas.

The college I'm attending seems to teach only majors that are generally picked by males.. the population of this school is about 1 female for every 15 males. At the best.I'm a girl. Quite often, I'm the only girl in my class. And oh my god.. the teachers are all constantly trying to get the guys to be politically correct, and to not use sexist terms, and to.. not offend the girl?I don't care, it doesnt matter.. "postal carrier" sounds silly, please just say "mailman", "trashman", "mankind"... anyone offended by words like that probably needs to get ruffled up more often, it'd be good for them ^^;Stupid political correctness ^^;

I find it interesting that you posted this item. I put it up on the net on my father's site Sat, 12 Mar, 2005. This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a local newspaper. Give credit where credit is due. You didn't come up with this. Where did you get it?

Finally, Someone Has Said It

Take a look at my rendition.

Political correctness has been a great hinderence in many cases to our society. However, we must keep in mind what America has become in its 200+ years.

America was once founded by the European Christian colonists. However, now America contains a great diverse people. This has caused a great shift in culture, government, and way of life. Political correctness is the attempt to conform the people in such a way as to unite them, so as for there not to be so-and-so offending what's-his-face left and right. People began to view America as a "melting pot," that is, a single culture effected by the assimilation of many formerly seperate ones. However, if any one of us takes a look around, do we see one main culture? Hardly. Unless you live out in the country, or live in a very socioeconomically isolated part of America, you are bound to see very distinct cultures everywhere. To compare this to the aforementioned "melting pot," we are soup that's starting to turn and form clumps, and so far it's not pretty.

The American people are inevitably going to offend themselves. People retain their cultures; assimilation is a difficult process. My point is, there really isn't any "American people." Given, there are Americans, but just no "people," in the sense of a united and conformed entity. We have Mexicans who happen to live and work in America; we have Samalians who happen to reside in America; we have people from all manner of backgrounds living, working in America. Even if these people are citizens, they really don't belong in one group "American people."

If someone were to ask you what the culture of an American was, what could you say? Freedom? You can't possibly classify a people by freedom, especially with how abstract freedom is and how many nationalities and states claim to have it.

A people is united by religion, ethnicity, culture, language, or at least some things of that nature. But taking a look at America, we can't really see any one uniting feature. This leads us to ask another question, "What is patriotism, and is it proper to have it?"

Not that I can stop you from having patriotism. You go on ahead. But do we classify patriotism according to the fatherland's residents? If this were so, American patriotism is stupid, because of course, there is not really an American people per se. So do we classify patriotism as the emotions felt about our government and it's actions? I won't presume to get too detailed about those implications, but as of the moment, patriotism in that sense wouldn't be too keen either. Unless imperialism is something to be proud of. Because I have to say, in the orgy of imperialism, we are on top.

I feel wordlessly sad on account of the events having occurred on September 11th, but those events don't warrant permission to go on an "American inquisition" of sorts. Those people were terrorists. What do they cause? Terror. Then what is their purpose? Terror. So if we go on in this terrible purpose as we have been, have they succeeded?
