My Mmorpg (in creation)

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Cesto Ode ande im trying to create a mmorpg which is good to play and makes life that little bit more intreasting.

The reason for me posting this topic is that i dont want all of my ideas in this mmorpg, but i want the public's, because your the people who are going to be playing it!

Firstly, the mmorpg will have the following features;

-Many standard MMORPG features built in, such as animal riding, item crafting, and more.

-Player vs. Player support: PvP can be turned on/off on a per-area basis.

-Support for secure trading between players.

-Up to 4,500 visual combinations per character with different genders, beards, hair, faces, clothes and add-on equipment.

-Players can have pets or henchmen.

-Merchants buy and sell items.

-Characters can walk, fly or swim around in your game world

-Players can buy houses to live in, and to store their items.

-Players can buy a house with a salesman NPC, and set up a shop selling their items, even while they are offline.

-up to 65,535 items for players to find, trade and use.

-virtual worlds with unlimited areas, allowing your world to be as large and detailed as you like.

-Allow players to create their own guilds, and send their guild members on quests.

-MMORPG Chat system with typical chat commands and functions

-Create classes and races, or use a skill based system instead

-A robust monster and Non Player Character (NPC) Artificial Intelligence.

If you think that you have any idea's which could help me on my mission to build a mmorpg that everybody will like, then please post a reply in here or join the ancientrealm forum,

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
or email me
ancientrealm@goowy.com

the mmorpg is going to be based on an ancient realm, which is about monsters and quests and that sort of stuff,
im open to all ideas,

thank you,
Cesto Ode

That sounds cool. But another really important part is the battle system. I think it would be cool if you run into enemies and go into a battle, not just where you never leave the map, and just fight the enemy like in Maple Story or Runescape. Of course, that's probably a lot harder to script that then the other battle systtem (like in Runescape). And, it's much cooler when you can aim your strikes or arrows at cetain spots, ad your hit is based on your accuracy (the players), not the character's accuracy stat. And, where you can dodge using your own reflexes, not the character's. Of course, like what i said above, that's really hard to script. Is there any way i can help you? I can't scipt, but maybe i can do some gaphics.

Here are some few ideas.-Your pet can train your pet and make it attack for you-Have a bank where you can earn interest-An Auction place-Players can make boats and go to places only accesible by boats like islands or in the middle of the sea where you fight water-like monstersthats all I can think up for now :P

First of all, Runescape is a java based game totally different from an MMORGP. :P Its like a game called OUTWAR (http://www.outwar.com/) Many people have heard and played this game. Also many versions of pimpwar are being ripped. Everyone I know has a MMORGP script, though they don't fully function all the way and have errors. So anyways hope your games cool. Also make a thing where users need to pay something. All good sites have a way that lets you have something special. And its a way for you to make some$$$. It gets really popular :) Then you got tons of moolah :)

i like stories, may be you could add a story to make it more interesting, and to keep players gaming a long time, about the ancient realm it's prety cool, with horses, shells, armory, fortress, eagles, wizards, witches, and all that great stuff, i think that's to much work for only one person, tell me how are you going to make it work and haw much time do you think you will spend, because you will have to code, make AI, desiogne the characters, the story or at least the environment, the graphics, and also the code for connectivity, thats to much work for only one person. well i hope you can do it by yourself, and good luck!!

Are you coding this mmorpg yourself, and if yes, what programmign language do you use? And will it be free to play or pay to play?

I have good experience with 3ds max and access to the newest one coming soon (version 8) so if you're looking to find someone to model these hundreds of items and facial features, I would love to try and help out. Hopefully you're being serious because people always lie about their skills on the internet (but im not B) ) No I don't want pay, I just like being in the credits and being one of the first to play so im a high level, like I did in maplestory.

ok, first of all, don't just wake up in the morning and say to yourself 'I know, I'll make a game today, then maybe I could be a firefighter tomorow, the next day a businessman' etc. It doesn't work like that. Programming is harder than you think. I personally fell into the trap of learning thousands (well, actually about 10) different programming langs. I personally recomend Java. The compiler is free, and is very powerful 3D software. I know RuneScape™ uses Java, and look at where that is today. Chances are it used many different code libraries, worth thousands, so you will have to wait for a good income to get that good. Game devellopment usually requires a team of up to and including 100 people, sometimes more. And you are probably talking months, maybe even years of programming. Some minigame applets will take little more than a week, but what you are talking about will take ages. Start small. Try to make something where a simple shape travels across the screen, and when a user clicks it changes direction, or follows the mouse pointer, or even try it where it moves to the cursor keys. Take things one step at a time. And when you do succeed, post it on here so that I can try to follow what you did, and produce a game of my own (LOL)

One important thing I look at when playing an MMO is the combat system. Two things I cannot stand: Standing in place and exchanging blows while casting instants whenever possible, and jumping around like a maniac spamming your strongest skill while also spamming your potions. Make sure to make your combat system to require at least some though. Even if that thought is a simple rock/paper/scissors. It's still something. Also along with allowing people to have unique avatars I'd say allow for some unique skills as well. By that I mean allow the user to have the option when he upgrades his skill to increase range, damage, or loading time, or some combinations with lesser value. It's nice to see every character customized. Well, good luck to you. <3
