I designed the site and done all the images (yep, i know they're not very good :PI'm really pleased with it all. My first domain and I feel it looks somewhat professional.Any constructive criticism would be very welcome - It's only by criticism that I can ensure that all viewers of the site enjoy it.By the way, for those of you who are becoming rather curious and wondering what the website is about, it's a sport discussion forum site. It doesn't have very much bandwidth, I'll probably apply for hosting here in the near future. I was referred by a friend and feel this site looks kinda professional.Anyway, hope you like my website

To be honest with you, it doesn't really look that professional. I think you should have some real life picture of atletes on your frontpage. And the color scheme is kind of "dull." Also, you might want to make the cartoon a little more realistic, it looks like my kid sister drew it. The font under the navigation can also use some work. Most sports pages have high quality graphics and such, you can ask around and see if anyone can make it for you. You make also want to put some articles or news headlines on your homepage. Overall, its a great site for your first try. Btw the forums are kind of hard to read, you want consider changing that too.

hey there! I think you should try to keep the fonts for your text smaller (but still readable) than what you used. Also, it would be nice to keep the font size in your navigation uniformed or consistent. If its a sports discussion forum I think you should put more pictures of athletes and other sportsy things like what yhcln1 said. I'm no good myself but I think you should try to improve the graphics and the whole look-n-feel of the site and maybe add more content to it. But I know its still new and I'm sure you have plans of improving it. Just keep at it.

Hey.. I like the blue background! Well...my opinions on your site is you need to improve your graphic skills. =/ But I like your forum board colors =) It's just the text and the pictures' qualities... they're all rough and not as smooth. Maybe try putting the text as "Antialis?" (SP) That'll make the text appear.. smoother. But keep up the good work. I remember when I had my site, but it wasn't a domain. I had a geocities site.. I think my first layout was black and white haha lol it was featuring Avril.. I guess I used to like her . I think when I made that layout it was during the...hmm... 2002? Because it was when I was around...11 and right now, I'm turning 14 =) Yeah, anyways keep up!

Site Review

It's a nice site and it's good for a first attempt  Here are my thoughts on it:

The first thing notice is the footballer image on the right. It doesn't look very realistic and makes the site look unprofessional. As soon as I look at it I can tell that it was designed in mspaint and it's a good image if it was created in that program because mspaint is probably the worst graphics program there is. If you were to try and re-create the image in paint shop pro 9 or photoshop cs2, it would look a lot better.

Next thing I see are the navigation buttons and the images there are of poor quailty aswell. The thing I would recommend is to scrap the navigation images and use css to create a background rollover effect and maybe have one image to use as a header for the navigation menu.

Then I notice the strange table with nothing in it towards the top of the page. I go and disable adblock and refresh the page and a flashing page header I see. I appreciate the work on the animation but perhaps have it in the centre of the table at the top and rename it from banner.gif to page_header.gif or something so mine and other peoples adblocking programs don't pick it up.

The final thing I would recommend is to experiment with indenting the main page text so that it isn't glued to the right hand side of the navigation table.

I would also suggest validating your pages and saving your images as .png wherever possible. They are generally better quality and load quicker. If you're willing to invest more money into your site, maybe buy a graphics program.

On a positive the frontpage looks okay in firefox and the colour scheme is nice. The text is legible (unlike the text on of my sites) and the domain name you chose has a very good name (not like jerryshomepage.com or talkaboutsports.com)

Site Rating: 6/10

Thanks all for your criticism. I keep meaning to change my forums stylesheet, but have never actually got round to it yet.The image was, indeed, made with microsoft paint :huh:The only reason i didn't include the official sporting legend images was because I didn't want to go against copyright laws or anything like that - If I were to use someone else's pictures then this would be illegal?Anyway, I will be changing all this in the near future. It's only due to the criticism that i know what to change! Thanks!

ok, my honest opnion is a 4/10
and this is why. . .

(if your just learning then don't take my words harshly, i rate everysite in the same way)

the major (and obvious) let down are the graphics sadly.
i thought the little "sporty talk" person drawing was a joke at first. . . then realsied it wasn't. . .
The navigation graphics (like already said) are not very sharp, and why you used that weird font i have no idea. Stick to a relevant typeface/theme when designing a site. There is nothing worse than a website with differenrt fotns and colours all over the place (the colour theme you did well  )
The Banner is not too bad either, but again the font is quite pixelated, and why it changes to all those differernt colours i don't know. seems a bit odd to me, and not very smooth or flowing.

Now, the layout i don't especially have a prioblem with. I mean the Navigation could be less wide, to free up more room for your content area. the tables are pretty basic but do the job alrite :P
Altho i don't personally like the blue colours, they do fit nicely, so well done on the colour picking :(

The postioning of the content is a thing i'm not liking. Could you not center it in the middle of that section?

The forums look good, but the back gorund colour and the main content area are too similar , and both areas seem to just blend in wiv each other. The header banner looks better in the forums :(

so. .. . you've seen my personal opinion on how to improve, now if your stugglin using paint (i no i wud) and cannot afford or egt your hand son a copy of photoshop, then try this : G.I.M.P
don't be scared to click the link due to the name :( its a great free graphics editting program.

good luck with the site :(

Thanks a lot, I will have a look into downloading this GIMP program. I've heard of it before actually, but never actually forced myself to download it. I'd imagine it would be quite good as it was one of the programs we got told about in our basic I.C.T course at school a few years ago.I agree that the picture of the man looks a little bit like a joke. I will be changing this when I can actually force myself to spend another hour or so at imaging - I'm not a professional imager so it takes my quite a while.I was thinking about making those navigation images more like buttons, which I believe would make the site stand out better than it is at the moment. The site is a project in progress, my first domain name, so things are progressing rather slowly. Eventually the colour schemes will be the same on both the site and the forums. Thanks for your criticism and opinions, they're very much appreciated. Thanks!
