Recommended Posts

I'm trying to learn to do some advanced stuff with php, and wondered if anyone here would be able to give me some tips and ideas for learning it. I already know basic php like echo "text";$variableif...elseswitchdate("D")loopsetc...But I want to learn some really big stuff so I can make some nice phpBB Hacks. If anyone can give me some pointers or help me find some advanced tutorials or guides, or some methods of learning it would help alot!!!Thank-you! :-)

I'd guess the best way to go is by browsing the manual of php. For additional help, i guess you can post here more about any problems you may have on understanding anything, or find a good forum with php pros in it.

If you intend to make hacks and mods for PhpBB I would suggest looking at their forums and asking some of the members on there for help. They may even have tutorials for the basic stuff, like grabbing usernames, post counts etc.

I say just get a php book. Get something big that is more advanced than my PHP and MySQL for Dummies. There are many books out there like the PHP Bible and some others that I cant remember. So... Yeah. Go with books because you can get them and look at what you want when you want where ever you want. And what if you need help and for some reason the site goes down for a day or a few days. Than what. You won't be able to get help. I myself am very impatient. Couldn't wait that long. I suggest the books. lol

I suggest trying to go to http://ww11.phpfreaks.net/ and http://www.phpbuilder.com/ or http://www.phpbuilder.com/.. and for first-time PHP users, go to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and look for the PHP Tutorials links... It will really help you alot if you need to learn more about PHP... Their tutorials are really friendly. After learning PHP, you can't make a website without using it! It just makes the job of a webmaster a lot easier than plain HTML... :D
