Acer is the cheapest laptop in my country - India. Though the price factor is quite satisfactory, Acer laptops as far as my knowledge is concerned, are not upto other brands like HP - Compaq, IBM, Samsung and others. They are usually very heavy, specially those with less than $1200USD price tag range. For laptop CPU should be intel pentium centrino which can withstand high temperature and prevent overheating of the system. However higher configuration of Acer laptop may be a good idea too. Mostly all those costly laptops or called it even notebooks are more or less the same from one brand to another; of course not to speak big brother Mac. I suggest you go for some other brands.

Ctrl + Alt + The Up arrow key

Hope this helps.

Acer laptops are the really cheap and chunky types. They usually come with Celeron processors, but this one seems to come with a Centrino, which is fine.

Screen, fine, processor, fine, memory, ok.

The laptop is satisfactory, but if you'd like to push the boat out a bit more, try a Satelite Laptop or a HP laptop. If you'd like to go to the higher end of the market, try going with Sony Vaio, some are excellent so check the reviews (i recommend on amazon). If you'd like to go for looks rather than specs then go for Macbook air, which is the thinnest laptop out there.

Hope this helps!

I'm not so big on Acer's. I have an Acer desktop and when i bought it wasn't the best. So i have done upgrrades to it. But what ever you do. Do not buy a dell. OMG They are so annoying. You cant upgrade them with out getting their parts. and the crash to much.

williamm, your are right.Yes, that is what Dell does. I have seen the inside of a Dell desktop, every thing there is well fixed, you can't even move one part. And if you want to upgrade your computer, you will have to get Dell's parts. :)

Eh, Acer I don't think really has a lot of support. I am not basing that off what I have personally experienced, but rather the lack of.Take Hewlett Packard for example. They are a very well known company based on what? Their support.I would honestly look at price after making sure that the company that sells it can give help for any issues you may come across. HP is one of the best I think, with Dell being one of the worst.HP will even help you with issues that are not related to your original configuration. For example you just bought a new video card and you're having issues getting it to work properly. They will help you out with diagnostics and whatnot, and if you need you can send it in to them for repairs(Not free of course.)There have only been a few times that I have had issues with their support, and it was more about their lack of knowledge than anything. Aside from that I would always choose HP over other companies.

I have an Acer laptop bought from UAE. At first, it doesn't have problems when I was using it. But after one year had passed, I encountered the most annoying problem of my laptop. It turns off inappropriate, I don't know why. Even I had a cooler and electric fan just to cool my laptop, it still turns off.

When I tried to open it again, It opens but turns off again. I checked the adapter and I saw that maybe there's a problem with my power supply. It turns orange, then to color green then nothing. With or without a battery, still having problems to it.

I prefer hp, toshiba, touchmate, neo as one of the good laptop brands (in my own opinion). Acer, because it captures lots of consumers, I think their quality sucks time after time.

Acer Aspire Desktop and LaptopsAcer Laptop

Love Acer Aspire Desktop and Laptop 5050. Wouldn't buy any other brand because the Acer Aspire computers are very dependable, easy to operate and very easy to upgrade. Acer Aspire is 2nd in the U.S to HP, 2009. So those of you who have not have the experience of owning an Acer Aspire product, try one...You won't regret it.

we've owned several brand name laptops, HP, IBM,Toshiba, Dell, and  4 Acer aspires 5100 and 3680.

The acers are the best of the above. HP the screen backlight went, Toshiba scree problems, IBM- hardrive problems and Dell all of the above. The acers are used in accounting 8 hours a day and in html and adobe environment 8 hours. HP was pathetic for warranty as were the others. Acer has a website where your product is registered and a thread is opened as to your specific support issues.

the only customization done to the Acer Laptops was installing 2 gigs of memory in each machine.

we have been around computers since the early eighties and the days of DOS and have experienced our share of horror stories
