Recommended Posts

I am from China , there are lots of sites are blocked by XXXXXXXX, it is not a news, but today i feel happy because I met a guy from Bangladesh and he told me that YouTube is blocked there also. I want to know there is any other country block the website?of course, I think the Internet should be free everywhere but seems like it's true in the real world...

There are a lot of countries where google services are blocked or partially blocked. On our country, only known warez torrents are blocked and this is being done by the major telecommunication company here as reaction to complains from outside world. We are also blocked from Vebo or something like that (a site that is hosting HD quality music videos being shared also by youtube).Funny thing is that some companies blocked us from watching local MTV's being shared on youtube by their artist on claims of international piracy. The top one doing this is Universal Records earning 99.5% of the total blocking and 0.5% being shared by other companies. Universal Records include self composed song and music on the block list and it is annoying.

In my country, which is part of European union, I don't know any sites which are blocked, nothing is blocked as far as I know, even though they've tried to block some sites, due to some reasons, but because of the law and possibilities, they didn't succeed as censor ship in the Internet is practically useless and can be out come, China example shows it.The only thing I can think of that some services just don't work, as they are USA or UK only or something like that. I guess a lot of services are not available for USA to :)

it's basically the same for me asI live in the UK (a county in the European Union where the censorship rulles are pretty reasonable. The only wbesite I'm not allowed to view are websites such as comedy central or MTV which are american programme cannels and therefore cannot be viewed from the UK. The other thing I can think of is youtube, some music videos for example are not allowed due to copyright laws.

If you become glad by hearing that some sites are blocked in countries outside china, then you would be very glad to hear that you neighbor Pakistan has also blocked some websites. The reason behind this blocking was a religious one and it was in the news for quite a long time. Now the ban on some of the sites has been released because the problem for which they were blocked has been eliminated. Actually there were some fake images of our Beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH. As muslims this is a serious crime to us and because Pakistan is in some real trouble nowadays and all over the world people call us "A fractured society of corrupt people", that is why we could not do much about it. So all the Government of pakistan did was to block the websites having that content. In the process the websites like Wikipedia, Youtube, Facebook, Google were all blocked but after some time the ban was released and only specific pages that were violating the law of pakistan were banned and the remaining pages are accessible now.
I wonder why China will block some of the websites over the internet. I mean China is the next super power of the world and it has some huge influence over the world so why not China correct the problem in its very root.

As far as I know, there aren't any blocked sites here in the US, but that may soon change. the government is trying to pass a bill for the "internet blacklist" which will limit the US's access to the internet. thankfully though this bill is being fought and hopefully it will not pass.

As of this weekend there are several websites that are effectively blocked in the US by altering the DNS records. An article in CNETâs Threat Level entitled âU.S. Shutters 82 Sites in Crackdown on Downloads, Counterfeit Goodsâ (https://www.wired.com/2010/11/us-website-takedowns/) reports that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agency has taken several counterfeit goods and torrent sites down. This is the second round of seizures which targets copyright and counterfeit websites.

On Monday morning, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and John Morton, director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, announced the seizures of 82 websites. The new crackdown, part of âOperation In Our Sites v. 2.0,â is aimed at websites that sell counterfeit goods like fake scarves and golf gear, as well sites that that facilitate what the government deems to be illegal music piracy, officials said. The announcement appears timed to coincide with Cyber Monday, the start of the holiday online shopping season.

Currently Australia has no internet websites that have been blocked by the government or authorities controlled by the government. Unfortunately, that is about to change, with legislation proposed by the current Labor government introducing a system of mandatory filtering of sites and blocking sites that have been 'refused classification'. I suppose it is a mixed good / bad thing depending on who you speak to, but in general I don't really see what differences it will make since for every filter or protection, there is always a loophole or bypass somewhere which would allow someone to break through and access any content at will. I somehow wish that the right to internet freedom should have been put into the Constitution, but of course, the Internet wasn't around when it was drafted.

Any form of blocking information from people is sick disregarding their reasonings. It's like they tell you-- "ok, this is good, you can watch, no, that is bad, you can't watch."What's the standard for "good" or "bad"? Even God leave us alone to sort out our own lifes. Some guys just enjoy acting like God when they are able to sip the power. Worse more, their God-alike acting normally in favor of a small group, put majority people in misery. Wait the day they meet the real God, we'll see.

well in the uk i know that there aren't any websites blocked here but i haven't tried every single one on the internet. also i thought that in america that they couldn't block any website because it goes against parts of your laws. where as in the uk people don't take as strict a view on the internet afterall is a person choice of what websites they go on. it is not up to a government to baby the nation treating like kids because if they going to treat us like children then we may as well act like children. you go stop paying taxes and when they ask why you say your treating me like a kid so kids don't taxes i don't.

Nope, not many sites are blocked in Belgium ... not only because we respect freedom of speech, but also because our government (which we don't have btw :P ) is a bit out-of-date :P . The only sites which are probably blocked in Belgium are those related to illegal activities (mostly childporn because it's easy to block, other sites are harder to get down because it's not always obvious if it's illegal or not).

because our government (which we don't have btw  )

Sounds like a heaven. It's true-- seldom hear any talks from Belgium gov.
No news means everything is doing well, nobody is trying to make noises, no one is acting like God. That's really a nice status.
You might not wish to have an "advanced" gov. They are advanced in slavering people for the benefit of a small group.

There are quite a few site in China which I could not access from US, it claims it's only accessible from with China. I could not understand what is the potential reason behind this issue. Any guess?
