In my opinion, building backlinks by commenting on other blogs is not a very good idea. There are a lot of problems with it. First of all you will have to find blogs within your niche. This part is the easiest one because you can use services like google blog search or technorati search. After finding a good number of blogs, you will have to look for those who allow comments (although most blogs allow comments but sometimes when you find a highly relative blog post, you will be disappointed to see that the comments have been closed for that particular blog post). After filtering the blogs for the ability to post comments, you will have to look for blogs with active comment moderation. Most blogs have comment moderation turned on and your comment will not go live until it is approved by the webmaster. This is the worst part of building backlinks through blog commenting. Most niche blogs don't have active webmasters and it may take many weeks before your comments can be approved. Another downside of it is that you have to check on again and again on the blogs to see whether your comment has been approved or not. This is necessary because you cannot waster your time commenting on a blog whose webmaster don't approve your comments. After passing this huge burden, you will still find that most links you obtain will be no follow and they are not as fruitful as the links obtained by some other sources. So I would suggest giving a try to other sources of link building before choosing blog commenting for building backlinks. I am not saying that this is not an effective way of building backlilnks. It has its own advantages some of which are enjoyable time while commenting, easily obtainable links etc. but if you are serious about building high quality backlinks to your website, then blog commenting should come second.
