Custom Pc Case

Recommended Posts

Did you ever wonder how would it look your PC case glowing in lights like Las Vegas casinos? ;) ;) You have an idea for your PC case? Share it with us! ;) Here's mine:I'm now working slow but sure on my custom PC case and i am pleased with the idea's i've got for the case. :P I'm planning to cut the side panel and put some plexyglass, cover the front where the floppy is putted (i'm not using it) with (i don't know how to say it on english but i will write in my language) KIT for wood (that is something like clay, only that way i can explane it). Inside i'm gonna put one very good blue light and maybe paint the cooler's with some fluorescent color. The whole case will be painted in black color but not black with glow. Greetings and best regards. :P

Modding up a PC case with fancy lights and translucent's seems exciting!

Since this thread is titled "Custom PC case", I would like to put in some questions to have some discussions.

Since the power usage is the most important thing when modd'ing up a pc or pc case, how would one estimate the approximate power usage of the components? I mean suppose I have a 500W capacity PSU, how would I know how many watts does the other components of the PC use, so that I can add extra lightings and other fancies in? I read in some forums, some say 20-60 watts depending on load, some say around 100 watts. Is there a practical way to measure actual power consumption of my PC? Has anyone tried connecting an ac ammeter in series with the mains supply of the computer?

Are you serious... that's huge, it's like a vending machine. Where do you put the quarters. The top opening for the Power Supply looks bigger than my power supply. You should mount a two axis Flat screen arm; add a keyboard/mouse arm/tray; add some wheels; add wireless speakers, wireless card, wireless game controller, wireless keyboard/mouse, infared remote, and mod a long power cord so you can roll it anywhere in your house like a vaccum. And if you get something like a 1080p wireless box over each of your TV's in your house. You could go with black paint, metallic paint, add some gloss, or stickers. If you have access to clear/colored plexi glass and an a drill, that can make your interior color/led lights shine. Me I took a metal grinder with a buff disc to remove paint and buff the metal to chrome finish. You can also try to make a brush steel look if you remove the paint. Or add primer and repaint the whole case and peripherals if you have time.I'll probably post some case mod pics when i get some extra fans, lights, better power supply, and new cabling.

Well, i am almost finished with my custom PC project. What it left for me to do is to cut a good plexiglass and mount it on the side panel, install the blue LED Antec coolers which i am waiting to come from eBay, to buy a good processor for LGA 775, also i bought a motherboard, J&W IP43-S for about 80$. Here is some pictures from the case now.

Before (the sketch on the side panel was the plan, but the plan was changed):

Your pictures aren't realy telling much, tough I must say, it seems a lot better now (but that's not hard to do as the case was fugly to begin with :) ).@Spencer: you can use a normal AC power meter to measure how much power the computer is drawing. The cpu and gpu usually use most power, so it's best to let them crunch on something while measuring (use something like Prime95 to stress all the cores and a 3D benchmark like 3DMark to stress out your graphics card). The power usage of all the extra lights depend on what kind (LED, CCFL, ...), their size (10cm, 20cm, ...) and how many of them you're installing. Afaik, all devices specify how much current they draw (tough you also must take into account the fact that CCFL's might draw a lot of amps before while starting).

Well today i have recieved my two new Antec 80mm coolers from eBay, from the seller TheFanVan shop. I've payed for them about $16 with shipping and i have recieved them for about 16 days. Pretty fast, i am very satisfied from the seller and the coolers are very cool. You know, Antec is one of the leaders for PC cooling technology... Here's a picture from the coolers:

Write what you think about my new Antec coolers. :)

do you want to know how i improved the cooling on my computer i took a screw driver and widened the vents as well as fitting a fan which didn't cost me anything since i ahve a big box of old computer parts in the loft. good thing is fan cables have not changed in ten years and i needed the cooling because my 9600 gt was producing alot of heat when i played any high end game and that caused lag now with the cooling fan and the widened vents it has improved permformance. that goes to show that cooling can have a positive impacts on permformance. because if you can get it to run at that optimal temperture everything runs like it should and it doesn't waster power trying to cool it self with only the cpu and gpu fans.

You say that you bought them from ebay ? The fans are really nice, and they seem to be brand new ? I thought that ebay was mainly for buying used things, or new gifts you don't like, offered for birthday by people not knowing you, I did not know that you could also buy fully new, never used computer parts. From a general point of view, is it not risky buying such a way ? I mean, if I buy in the shop near my house and if I am not satisfied, I can bring the thing back to the shop and say "I feel angry, the thing does not work", and I will have a new one which will be working. But if you buy a computer fan and it does not work, what can you do ? Pay $10 shipment back to the seller, and expect that he well ship a new one back without charging you an extra $10 fee?Just curious. :) Yordan

Nah mate, there is a reputation for the sellers. The coolers i bought were from approved seller (he had very positive feedback left on his profile by other buyers). The coolers, yeah they are brand new and on every item before buying it has set Condition: New or Used. Anyway, eBay is very secure website if you are buying from a seller with a positive feedback, so if you have PayPal don't be afraid to buy something cheap from eBay. :D Now i am waiting my 4 aluminum heatsinks for the RAM memory's (bought them brand new for 1.05$ each), the LAN network splitter to split my broadband internet (bought them brand new for 0.99$) and my PS2 to USB converter (bought them brand new for 0.99$). Everything is with free shipping... I'm expecting the stuff to arrive this Monday (Tomorrow). If i get the items i will make a picture from them and write a little review for them. Although i forgot to write a little review for the Antec coolers... i have tested out one of them and it ran very smooth on medium speed (2500 RPM). I was running it on my older P3 PC just for test on Speed Fan and it recognize it the RPM speed from the fan. I can't wait to get my E5300 processor this week and for the first time run my unstarted J&W IP43-S motherboard and my custom PC case. :)

You are right, these prices are completely crazy. The PS2 to USB converters I find in the shops around my house are around $4.00, I even can't imagine buying it. Don't even mind about the network splitter, I thought that I had to buy an Ethernet switch in order to split my LAN network!
