Ad-hoc Networking Question/InquiryAd-hoc Networks (without Routers)

does the host pc need a wireless adapter using ad hoc network system?

While browsing the net, I on a mirosoft page information on the Ad-Hoc network setup. My highspeed cable internet is connected to my desktop (via ethernet cable) and does not have any kind of wireless network adapter device, but my laptop pc does have a built-in wireless network device. My question is, which of the two computers would the modem have to connect to via the ethernet cable, or I guess I could say which pc will have to be the server.
