Site Language Other languages permitted

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm thinking of transferring my website to Xisto, but I stumbled upon a problem. In your TOS, it is stated that hosted websites must be in English. My website, which is Joomla based, is a community site with two languages, Portuguese and English, with Portuguese being the default language. So, I'd like to know if these rules are final or if a Portuguese website could be accepted. I'm not expecting you to just open an exception because I asked you to, but it would be cool if you could expose some conditions by which I could abide to get my wish.I'm a software engineer with very decent communication skills and I could be a good contributor to this community..... if you allow me to be a part of it =)Thanks.

Hi nunocordeiro. The rule you mentioned is indeed somewhat ambiguous, but there had been another discussion about it in the past, and an admin gave this answer...

If you would like to make your website other than in English, you MUST provide 100% correct translation of that site. Furthermore, if you hinder any technician by providing a fake English site but any different content in other language(s) you are to be terminated of your hosting service and banned form Xisto site altogether. It is also strongly advised that your index (greeting or portal page) to be in full English and then lead to your native (preferred choice) language so that there isn't any confusion by server technicians.

Here's the link to the full discussion...

You must understand that this rule is being enforced in order to verify that web sites hosted at Xisto do not violate some other segment of our TOS (e.g. the no-piracy policy). It would be very difficult to do so if you had to understand many different languages, you would have to agree ;)

I would like to clarify for everyone and odds are this applies to Xisto as well, as long as you have a single page in English about what your website is about, any other web pages can be in whatever language you want. However, if your got strong skills in both english and another language your better off especially if your hosting a content driving website. As long as you provide English as an option I due believe you will be able to host on Xisto.

Thank you all for your answers.Since the site's main audience is Portuguese, it would be a burden to translate every single piece of news or update. Still, I'd be ok with translating the main pages (I've actually been planning to do that).I do understand that the main focus is to verify the compliance of the rest of the TOS which is why I thought it was worth asking. There are other hosting websites available which do not have the English only requirement (e.g. byethost), but I've heard so many good things about Xisto that I'd rather be hosted here. Anyway, I just wanted to know if there was a certain amount of flexibility on that rule, and from what I understood from saint-michael, I should not expect to have my website suddenly terminated as long as I closely abide to the remaining rules. Am I correct in this assessment?Could any admin please confirm what saint-michael stated, since he appears not to be sure and his answer conflicts with what BuffaloHELP posted on the linked thread.Once again, thank you all for your help.

BuffaloHelp will make the final decision, in case of misunderstanding.

Is it me or as I remember Xisto used to permit foreign languages without having an English version? as I remember this was the reason I moved here years ago ;) but maybe I'm just dreaming, google translate has a lot of languages to choose from and anyone can just translate to English and see the content, I always suggested this on different hosting services, but most still wanted to leave English only or etc. ;)

I guess that, if you want the site contents be reviewed by people from India or from anywhere around the world, asking the language to be English simplifies a lot. I'm pretty sure that Goggle will have problems translating from Chinese or from Russian or from arabic. Mabe simply your own PC cannot display greek characters, so you cannot read/translate greek sentences.

For reviewing a site if it's a legit one or note, I don't think that it really needs to translate automatically very well, just the basic stuff that you would see that it's not a warez, porno, racist or any other website which is not allowed. ;)Of course, I agree that it's much easier to review English site's, because it is faster and less complicated to browse. ;)
