Could Use 'some' Tips!

Recommended Posts

i'm (trying) to create my personal site, but unfortunately, i'm not familiar with coding or designing.... I'm interested in your constructive criticism!! Doesn't matter on which field (navigation, lay-out, content,.....) My site would be a photosite, maybe some tips on this matter? :)

here is My Webpage
btw: it's FAR from finished, and i mean REALLY far from finished... B)

thanks in advance :) !

Fairly clear this is incomplete. Here are some comments none the less:Not bad general design. I am not a fan of that handwritten look font, but it is not too distracting, there are far worse fonts you could have used. Since this is a personal site I would give you far more latitude with things such as fonts, so I think your site works good in its current form.Hard to comment on navigation when there is no where to navigate too, but assuming you have that top tool bar, you are on the right track. What are the two dates at the bottom? It is unclear, and the second date is hard on the eyes, the grey and highlighter yellow (or is it neon yellow/green) is anoying.Nice start though.

I think the two dates at the bottom is the web log for the site, anyways I can see that your site is far from finished, can you tell me what type of website are you making? (blog, family/friends...)

the two dates at the bottom are the dates when updates have been made. thanks for responding, it is very useful to me! :)

Do you (anyone) suggest a specific (sort of) font?

i would place lots of pictures on the site, does anyone know which way is the best way to do this? (which webalbum creator?, using frames?,...)

I'm not a big fan of Marquee (its very old skool) but W/e. After looking at your code, you should try to implement CSS instead of using standard tables.

Also design and create a lite website is much easier to do with Photoshop (if you have it).

i have a couple of questions and comments:

-What do you mean with "W/e" ?

-i don't know how to implement CSS, but i'm willing to learn it.

-i use Macromedia Fireworks instead of Photoshop, is that, in your (experienced :) ) opinion the same?

W/e = whatever :)

CSS is pretty easy to learn, check out this site first: http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

As for photoshop, what I meant is your website can be simply design and coded by using photoshop. check out this site for example: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Flash is definity better for more interactive design.

here is a simply web layout for your site, all you have to slice it up, and photoshop will code it for you. As you can see its much easier than creating tables and try to put the pictures in position.

great idea! :) some questions:

-how did you created the effect on the top?, i mean the "metal"effect...

-can you generate the same effect in macromedia fireworks?

I learned the metal effect from the tutorial site I mentioned earlier (http://www.good-tutorials.com/), search for "brushed metal". If you dont have photoshop, you can try GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) it is a very good free photoshop alternative.I have no personal experience with Fireworks so I dont really know, but after a Google search I've found this Spanish site, you might wanna use babelfish for this (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/).

Try no to use handwritten fonts, because they all have a lack of readability, many people don't like them because it's hard to read, use some of the system installed fonts instead, you will not be forced to use pictures for your menu because you may use some dhtml nice script maybe... anyway keep up the good webdesign work, you got much to learn from now....
