This Is Why The Us Will Not Be Leaving Iraq Anytime Soon, unless.......?

Recommended Posts

Ever hear of any country we help, telling them they cannot save their vegetable seeds? Well look up Order 81 and be prepared for an eye-opening!

My search started with finding a heirloom tomato plant named for IRAQ. Read the quote below from http://www.rareseeds.com/

"Rouge D' Irak

Medium-sized fruit are finely flavored; good yields, too. This variety is endangered even in its own country, where saving seeds was made illegal under the "Colonial Powers" of the United States. Under the new law, Iraqi farmers must only plant seeds from "protected varieties" from international corporations. Is this our unique way of making democracy?"

At the Claire Files- a simple machines forum, in the Iraqi tomatoes section under Special Interests are a couple of links to the actual Order 81. Evidently, any non-genetically modified seed in the hands of an Iraqi farmer is contra-band. Please correct me if I am wrong. I would so like to be incorrect in this. :

"Bad seed

and a follow-up:

IRAQ: CPA Order 81 Is Even Worse Than Originally Reported "

In a nutshell the multinational ag companies like Monsanto, go into a country and grow some of the local heirloom seeds. Then they modify them and get a patent on the seed. Problem is, something is rotten in Denmark, because they get the patent to extent back into time beyond their seeds and routinely outlaw the heirloom seeds of the country. For example look at what has happened to the Wheat in India:

"Wheat Biopiracy in India

We need to stand up to these bullies as they have caused starvation in many parts of the world and for what? Money---Power. It is time we stood and announced that this piracy is not democracy, but a blatent take-over. We need to work with governments---- not try to exploit them. For some interesting reading on what should be done with those that are in this solely for private gain read on to the end of the Claire files--Iraqi farmers section B)

And for anybody that thinks these last suggestions are a bit harsh, remember the mass famine that has resulted from these high handed tactics and also, they could be knocking on your door next. For example, there are rumors that the RFID tags are coming to all---and I mean all--livestock in the US. That means anyone that has a hobby farm or even a few chickens just for themselves for the eggs. Alarmingly enough there are some in government that are pushing for the RFID tags to be put on all cats and dogs. It is time to stand up and be counted and stop these control attempts!!! :)
