Blog Script?

Recommended Posts

Hi,
Can someone help me to find an easy and free Blogscript? I'm also looking for great templateheaders special for blogs. It doesn't matter if it is in php, cgi or another programming, as long as it is free: )

Thanx!

Just refreshed and already seen a post. If you want to get hosted here then I guess that could be an option, but if you ever want to move your site, or host it locally then you could download a script.

Personally I went to hotscripts.com and searched for blog. Tons of results. Note some are free, but some you have to pay for.

You could read the descriptions yourself and determine what's best for you. How many features you want, do you want it stored in a database or flat file system, is this for personal use...etc. I'm sure you have an idea of what kind of system you want.

I can't recommend anything, but I find it best to go by the rating system of the peers and the descriptions on hotscripts.

This particular script kinda jumped out at me though

Good luck with finding a blog script.

Blog scripts, eh, well, there's a good number out there. One of the most used would be Wordpress, which I also use myself. Wordpress is great, but it does require that whichever webhost you chose have PHP 5.0 and MySQL. Once it's set up, managing the entire blog becomes really easy--nearly all the work can be done through the admin panel. If you find yourself missing any Wordpress features (like creating a Google sitemap, or structured comments), then you can check out their extensive plugin gallery here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/.

Skins can be easily changed with Wordpress--it's done with just the simple click of a mouse. And of course, if you get Akismet, then nearly all comment spam is automatically taken care of. XP

Then again, there's also DotClear. The only problem with that is there are little resources of it in English, so you might have a hard time understanding what to do.

And of course, I do agree with minnieadkins--you have to decide exactly what kind of features you want from that blog as well as whether or not you'd prefer it in a database.

I'm not so sure about PHP 5 - it should work OK on servers with PHP 4.0 installed. For example, Xisto doesn't have PHP 5.0 due to technical reasons, but everything works fine nevertheless.

But yes, WordPress IS the best blogging system out there. If, however, you are not able to use a host with all the necessary functions, you might want to try out

. It is a Google's service which offers free blog accounts (you get YourName.blogspot.com as the address). It's the best thing for newbie bloggers, in my opinion.

You don't need PHP 5 for Wordpress. Php 4.2 is enough.

PHP 5 is still widely unavailable, for example its not available here at asta and thus requiring version 5 would be a bit silly.

Anyways you need PHP 4.2 which is quite usually available and MySQL database (less commonly available on free hosting.

Easy way to test Wordpress is registering an account at Wordpress.com and getting a free blog! At wordpress.com they run a full basic version of the system and you get to use all the features. Only limitations are that you can't install your own theme (which is a bit downer) and naturally can't extend the Wordpress.

If you like it then download and install it to your own webspace. :)
