What Happened To Uni.cc?

Recommended Posts

As some of you may know, UNI.CC has just sort of "dissappeared" over these few months, and the only thing that it has on the site is

:19638/webhost/rollout">-->

All of my websites have have lost the UNI.CC connection, yet, DNS still works.

And even more peculiar is the website coding.

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 Final//EN"><HTML><!--------------------------------------- Copyright (c) 2000 Ensim Corporation --------------------------------------> <HEAD>  <TITLE>Refreshing to welcome page...</TITLE><!--<meta http-equiv="Refresh"content="1; URL=https://<!--#echo var="hostname"-->:19638/webhost/rollout">--><!--#if expr="${HTTP_HOST}" -->    <script language="javascript">        var myhostname = "<!--#echo var="HTTP_HOST" -->";        //alert("Hey Nice to see you " + myhostname);        myRe = /^(.*):([0-9]*)(.*)/;        var newname = myhostname.replace(myRe,"$1$3");        //alert("I changed URL to:" + newname);        document.write("<meta http-equiv=\"Refresh\" content=\"1; URL=" + "https://" + newname + ":19638/webhost/rollout\">");    </script><!--#endif --> </HEAD> <BODY  BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF"  TEXT="#000000"  LINK="#0000FF"  VLINK="#000080"  ALINK="#FF0000" ></BODY></HTML>

I find the the little comment tags and javascript most interesting. The comment tags say Enism coporation, which is another web control panel company, like cPanel. And the javascript is even more weird. Apprently, if you have the right "HTTP_HOST", it will show you the new URL to the site. like below:

Hey, nice to see you.
I chnaged the URL to:

How wierd, anyone got any ideas on what's happening?

Mabye I'm paranoid,Possibly a hacking attempt? Uni.cc has alot of data and forwards ALOT of sites. If they were to just 'disappear', alot of people would lose sites. (not the data, of course, but the forwarding. I daresay that if they were hacked, and it were me, I would've done alot cleaner job (if I knew how to do that stuff) and left a lil' trademark :)Panda-P.S. So really? What did happen? I was planning to register with them a few hours ago, (being the spur of the moment man I am).Panda OUT

It COULD be a hacking attempt. but it looks as if it could be an error with the SHTML (Or they may not have the index file as an SHTML file. If that is SHTML, then it shouldn't be showing up in the comment tags...However, there could be multiple things that could have happened...

Its odd I noticed that a while ago. I have a uni.cc domain. but I switched to a Xisto subdomain. I guess it was a good idea. Whatever happened I hope they resolved it soon.

Can't be hacking. As if there is no one to look after the site. If it is like that from months then don't you think someone would have checked it?

I was wondering why too. I was trying to register a domain there a week or so ago, but the site said that it was temporarily unavailable. I've also seen some strange css code when I visit other uni.cc domains. It's real strange. I have no idea what's going on around there. Are hackers actually responsible for this?

Just for the fun of it I tried the url the page gave: :19638/webhost/rollout (see, a port no.) Nothing much happened: http://uni.cc/webhost/rollout/ came up as:

Bad Request Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand. Reason: You're speaking plain HTTP to an SSL-enabled server port. Instead use the HTTPS scheme to access this URL, please.     Hint: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Then i tried: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ And it is a control panel. I just think that uni.cc may have bitten off more than they could chew... :)

UNI.CC's servers couldn't handle them anymore. They had to switch to better dedicated servers. I just noticed that they're back today. But very unfortunately, they aren't offering DNS now. I really wanted the DNS so I could have a short URL for my site that showed the folder and page extensions (site.uni.cc/index.htm, /images, etc). Does anyone know of any other sites that offer free DNS domains like that? :o

http://www.cjb.net/ offerse DNS service for you. All you need to do is enter ns1.trap17.com in the name server text box and park your cjb.net subdomain - yourdomain.cjb.net, and wait a few days. Then you will be able to do yourdomain.cjb.net/images and such :D

Some people don't recommend using cjb.net because it has popups. I personally have never experienced popups with that service, so I highly recommend using it.
