Radiation EFFECTS of Radiation

Recommended Posts

Ionizing radiation has proved to be most valuable, for example,in clinical diagnosisi and radiotherapy. However, inadvertent exposure to relatively high doses of ionizing radiation is capable of injuring and killing cells, including mutations, producing developmental abnormalities in fetuses exposed in utero, or even producing latent cancers. On earth, it is impossible to escape exposure to radiation.Cosmic rays bathe the earth contionuously,as do terrestrial concentrations of radionuclides, such as radon gas.The two constitute natural "background" radiation.Few humans in developed countries escape diagnostic X-rays, and many require radiotherapy as a potential cure for various types op neoplasta. The "early" injurious effects of radiation appear only when certain cumulative levels of exposure to radiation have been exceeded. However, the later appearing consequences may have no thresholds;hence, the public's concern about the possible carcionogenecity of even low-level exposures. So what do you think about effects of radiation to human body?

Think the thing about the nuclear stuff is that most of them will still be dangerous when our grandsons will die... We do not have the luxury of moving between several planets, so we should preserve it as far as we can... What will the peope say(if this species won't become extinct in some nucear war) about their ancestors?

There is nothing to 'think' about regarding radiation. It happens. Whether you receive ionizing radiation because of therapeutic needs, nuclear fallout, or plain old cosmic bombardment, radiation is an inevitability. Every organism, all the way down to bacteria are capable of repairing many genetic lesions including ionizing radiation. Obviously, receiving copious amounts of radiation is not good for the human body. Knives aren't good for the human body too; but surgeons use scalpels to fix us. i.e. it is how something is used that makes it detrimental or toxic.
