Personally, I use Ares (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/).It is a really stable free p2p program with hundreds of thousands of users and best of all, it's quick loading and has no adware/spyware/viruses with it.I used to use Shareaza, but I couldn't deal with the number of dead or half-completed files it allowed. It once took me two hours to download a 5Kb text file with the tutorial on Run commands. I know that wasn't shareaza's fault, but rather the user group.

Most P2P applications have viruses, adware, spyware or malware packed with them. I've used just about every single program so I'll make a helpful list of programs and their safety levels.

I personally use Imesh. http://www.imesh.com/ it is mainly for music downloads, but the version 5.0 lets you download whatever is available.

I have used it to get quite a few things, but yeah. try it and you'll find it out for yourself.

The Risk Level is probably Medium, everything i have downloaded has been virus free, but i have heard people are getting viruses are from it.

Im currently using Limewire, it filters out many of the obvious bogus files really well. I remember when I was using Kazza, all the downloads would give me a really high pitched eerie sound. Im assuming RIAA is trying to fill up the kazza with bogus files so people would stray away from downloading files. But since I found limewire, I have been having great results for my search for things. I have yet to find a file that I didnt keep because it was currupted or a bad file at the worst.

Like a lot of people, I used a lot of P2P software. Basically, I've tried them all except for the Spyware-infested ones. I even used Morpheus and Kazaa, despite their enormous amount of Adware. And my personal favourite has been Shareaza since the first time I used it.

It basically has everything you could EVER wish for in a P2P program. It connects to the two best networks (i.e. Gnutella2 and eDonkey), it support BitTorrent downloads, it handles most every other extension for P2P downloading (e.g. Azuerus Links, Magnet Links, etc.)

It's a little hard to configure for novices, but the help files available on the Website make it a breeze to set up everything.

I don't use P2P programs anymore, my computer is always getting the same virus on it whenever I use one. :P The first one I used was Kazaa, and that had a lot of bugs and imcomplete and/or missing files. Then I used Limewire, which worked pretty well although I can't remember why I stopped using it. ;) After that I started to use Morpheus which offered quite high speed downloads but also tends to send you viruses. :P

... but too bad P2P is illegal!

P2P is NOT illegal. This is a major misconception that people have, especially due to the media crap that's been going around. And even more than that, it annoys me too much that people do something that they know is illegal... and if that's not enough, they tell everyone about their favourite tool to do this thing which they believe is illegal :P.

P2P is a way for people all around the world to share "things"... that's the concept. If I want everybody to download my pictures, my homemade movies, my OWN music album, my stories, or even my temporary Internet files, there's nothing illegal about that.

But if I use P2P to download block-buster movies, the new Shakira album, or a version of Microsoft's Windows XP, then that IS illegal.

To sum it up, P2P in itself is a great thing... it's what people do with it that alters its image. I hope that clarified things a bit ;).

Cheers.

The only ones i have used are Kazaa and Limewire.I had kazaa for a really long time and it was ok, i would get viruses through it but my virus detector would stop them as they came in so it was never really a problemwhen i finally found limewire i fell in loveno more high pitched screetch in sound files, good search results, faster downloadsI use limewire right now, even though i really never download anything through p2p networks

I’ve been using bittorrent for a while now and it is phenomenal as far as speed of downloading. I’ve tried other and found them unreliable and it’s hard to protect your computer when you are using them. Just search on any search engine and you should be on your way.

Definitely Limewire.

It's really fast, most of the downloads are on a T1 or T3 connection...

The files are sometimes five or ten seconds short, but hey- that's what I get for using P2P instead of buying music

It's overall good, also has lots of video (too much pr0n) and different file formats like mp3, wma, etc.

plenty of goodies- even smaller bands have some tracks on there. Good pickings for anyone who needs some new tunes.

I usually just use it for individual songs, and support the conglomerate monster of an industry by buying CDs. haha- that's how I roll.
