Is My Webdesign Too Boring? Your Opinion Please

Recommended Posts

I made this little layout a while back...but now I've been getting replies that it is "too boring" and dull thanks to the grey-ness of the site. Give me some opinions and suggestions please...

::EDIT::
here's a new version of the layout I'm working on:

Yup, lottsa grey there. Change the background images to something lighter to add some colour and spice it up. Different backgrounds in the different sections. One for the main cntent and another for the sidebar, etc. Needs a bit of a dressing up. Won't be hard to do. Good luck with it.

Your site top banner is really well-designed and looking great. But,you should take care for colour of the site.Overall colour is looking somehow dull.Need much more brightness.Atleast apply a cool background colour or make other necessary changes in colour to make this well-designed site more bright, colourfull and excellent! All the best!Cinthia. B) Good wishes.Cinthia.

It's a good design, bit common though, and I feel it needs more, to make it appealing and to get across the point of what type of site it is.

I think you need to lighten some of the colours, to make the text stand out more. Also throw in some more pictures (coloured of course, eye catchers really and to make the site a little bit more than just plain).

Also if you want, how about making it appear as if it were a comic strip, by using blocks/boxes, characters, speech bubbles etc, or at least applying it as needs be, it's nothing new, but it's suited for your site.

Here's an example from a friend of mine, it's just a pity he disregards standards, but it's still good to look at for inspiration http://www.lost.co.nz/ I think if you accomplished something like this, then you'd definitely have a site that captures what it's about.

Also check this out from his site http://www.lost.co.nz/main/websites/this.html

It shows the changes, in 2003, that look, even though simpler than now, I think is better than what it's at now, but it's mostly personal choice I think.

Cheers,

MC

I agree with the general ideas here, gotta do something about the grey. Grey is fine but it just kinda all blurs together too much, makes it hard for your eyes to know where they are supposed to be focusing. Overall a nice clean design though, tweak it like the people here have been suggesting and it should rock.

Anyone had any idea whats wrong? Maybe i should ask this someplace else to get some attention? It works on my other computer but not this one. Weird...

Thanks to anyone who could help me!

oh yeah and my review for your site:

I like the template overall but it needs a little more color than shades of gray. I haven't seen the logo banner yet (because of my stupid problem ^) but for now, i think maybe you should change the color to a green or blue maybe? Blues are soft to the eyes and people notice blue more than gray.

Well, funny...I actually plan on changin the layout soon. I have a little preview of it here:

It's still all undecided at this point. The whiteness of the comic isn't boding too well with the tech layout. And I have yet to add my characters to the banner. There's going to be two pictures of characters on the top...(this is my "test" page, so it'll be constantly changing whenever I work on it...)

It is abit boring. It needs more color variation. Grey is an incredibly boring color, or whatever you would like to call it. I'm no professional or anything, but I am training under a web-master so, keep at it.

Well, it's not bad site at all. But I must admit that grayness - it's a bit too gray color there... Im aware that it's a comics site, and comics have a general look ov black and white, but you could do much better contrasts that just gray shades. I would go with white/dark gray contrasted theme. It would boost an overall look of your page. And maybe add some colors, but not too much. Just keep this guide in mind: 2-colors = good design3 or more colors = easter egggood luck!
