Anyone Use Avg Antivirus?

I have seen systems that have a bunch of those resource hogging programs, but on a Dual Core system (even with 1GB of RAM running Vista), I didn't notice any lag time. I just went over to a client's house this past weekend and his had a bunch of programs running in the background. You know how they are....but I paid for it already. So I just left them on until they expire next year.I removed Norton from their other computer running Windows ME (yuck ). Put Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus on it and that thing is actually moving again in terms of launching multiple programs. AVG just keeps better and better for a free program

Tell me about it. On the topic of resource hogging programs, I noticed a pleasant increase in the speed of my laptop by removing ZoneLabs' free internet firewall and replacing it with a less demanding one. I'd heard good things about Sygate so I installed it, and he whole user interface is far more friendly, too, as it tells you exactly what applications you've got running that are accessing the internet etc.

For home use, I just don't think there's a need to spend money on security software where freeware can do the job perfectly well - and sometimes even better - without costing you a penny.

Yep. I'm using AVG Free as well as avast! antivirus. To me, both seem to have frequent updates, almost daily, in fact. I like AVG for its no-nonsense interface and its efficiency. Whenever I do get a virus or something, it's always AVG that catches it first. So, in my opinion, AVG's pretty good, especially since the version I use is free.Serena

Thanks Yordan, i just downloaded it but i dont install it now because i just have some work to do . BTW, as i said in my previous post, i dont look well, and finally i found it, but, in other website that i dont remember it's name now, and also it was a german version and i don't understand anything of german.

Yeap, it works easier, shame that its been discontinued this great software due to corporate takeover from Symantec, and also thats why i can't find it before.

I use avg as well its the only antivirus i use i find it perfect for me as i dont get very many viruses and it doesnt use too many system rsources. i have benn using it for a long time.

Me too, i use it for years and i'm not 100 percent sure but maybe since its first version.
Relating the sygate firewall, only to say that i just uninstall it because it make some trouble, block some websites that i use to check every day, for example some pages that i develop and i'm sure they are secure or dont allow me to download my email and refuse to connect to the mail servers.

I used AVG for several years and recently converted to NOD-32, too.Small, no lag, updates are efficient and don't bog down the system. Worth the money.

I use Avast. in my internet cafe 2 years ago and until now on my home pc i still use Avast. About 4 years ago i used AVG, it was also free but what i dont like is that the interface is too cluttered, a lot of new viruses still infects my pcs, its a little slower in scanning and it always reminds me to buy the thing...A friend of mine also liked AntiVir, it detects new virus fast.

AVG is very good, and don't forget: it's free.

I saw many antivirus like AVG, all they look like Clamav for windows(give this a try), so Clamav is a popular free-antivirus engine, just compare Antivir, AVG and EZ TRUST(old version).

"If for some reason you have to use an antivirus..." <-- sounds abnormal??? To use any antivirus is abnormal in the Unix wolrd, because people know what they are doing. You'll be infected if you are not responsible of your actions, because Internet was made by humans and there are very bad people waiting for the next victim for nobody knows what reason.

 

"The open way to the hell..." if you are walking in a dangerous street, with a water gun(any Windows OS ): craking, hacking, porn downloads, astalavista(you know, if not now I understand why you read this), and a large etc. If you want to be secure please go to google and look for wikipedia, ask for "computer", then for "internet security". Now back to google and look for tips on secure browsing, and pray to Micro$oft's death

 

SERIOUSLY

If already have to use some antivirus in your transition from newbie to experimented computer user. Then add this to our training list: Look new antivirus, install at least 3, test the best 2 one week, repeat the process the next 2 months OR

INSTALL some Linux and harvest the best from your Computer.

I used to run Norton on the machine I am using now - still constant problems with error messages, could not get the whole thing uninstalled.Currently I run AVG on both my big machines, updates are regular, it warns you when you have not been connected to the net for updates for a couple of days, it is clean, and, I think quite effective.The only thing I do not like is that it seems to take a long time to scan my machines, and while scanning, other things semm to slow down a bit - this is on both my machines, both duo core.Talking about duo core, why do they take so long to get going after reboot or restart? Can anybody help?

May I suggest you to open a new topic concerning your duo core machine booting slow ? This is a very interesting topic, and will probably be felt interesting by hardware people who would not look at the present "avg antivirus" topic.Regards
