The Eniac Electronic Numerical Integrator Compu

Recommended Posts

The ENIAC

The ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer), built during World War II, was one of the first modern computers.

It was an electronic machine that did its work by means of electricity, not mechanical switches.

It took up 3000 square feet and weighed 30 tons.

It was not exactly something you would want in your lap! :) While today’s computers have very few moving parts, the ENIAC had 6000 switches.

Hey yea ... I remember reading about it in school :).I still remember ... it was built by J P Eckert and J W Mauchly (No, I did not google for that). It was over 2 stories tall and used valves. That was the reason early computers were so huge ... because they used valves. Also, the myth back then was that with time, computers would get bigger and bigger (it was mentioned in Popular Mechanics if I remember correctly).
