How To Map A Network Drive Note: This is for Windows XP

Recommended Posts

You can make network addresses like this: \\officecomputer\cdrive\jay\

Into a simple drive letter like F:

Here's How

Intructions

1. First open up My Computer (You can do this by pressing start, and then My Computer)

2. In the Menu Bar (Which states File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help) click Tools, a pull down menu appear

3. Click on Map Network Drive... in the pull down menu that appeared

4. First Select your drive (In this example we will call it F:) by Clicking the pull down menu beside "Drive:"

5. At the Folder Menu Entry (Folder: _____) type in your network address (such as \\officecomputer\cdrive\jay\)

It should then say that its mapping the network drive, and then it has been networked to the drive of your choosing.

This is useful, but how can this be set so that some members of my LAN have to provide a password before they can map a drive in my computer?
