Microsoft Wants To Kill Google!

Recommended Posts

Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer vowed to "kill" Internet search leader Google Inc. in an obscenity-laced tirade, and Google chased a prized Microsoft executive "like wolves," according to documents filed Friday in an increasingly bitter legal battle between the rivals.

The allegations, filed in a Washington state court, represent the latest salvos in a showdown triggered by Google's July hiring of former Microsoft executive Kai Fu-Lee to oversee a research and development center that Google plans to open in China. Lee started at Google the day after he resigned from Microsoft.

The tug-of-war over Lee â known for his work on computer recognition of language â has exposed the behind-the-scenes animosity that has been brewing between two of high-tech's best-known companies.

Ballmer's threat last November was recounted in a sworn declaration by a former Microsoft engineer, Mark Lucovsky, who said he met with Microsoft's chief executive 10 months ago to discuss his decision to leave the company after six years.

After learning Lucovsky was leaving to take a job at Google, Ballmer picked up his chair and hurled it across his office, according to the declaration.

Ballmer then pejoratively berated Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Lucovsky recalled.

"I'm going to f------ bury that guy, I have done it before, and I will do it again," the declaration quotes Ballmer. "I'm going to f------ kill Google."

Hopefully they don't "kill" Google because its probably the leading search engine out there.

That stinks. Of course, if both sides lose a lot of money, then Yahoo! or Apple might seriously hurt the surviving company or even take it over. It's not a wise idea unless one google is not doing very well and Microsoft can take it out easily. Ballmer sure is dirty. And Lee can retire after working at Google for a few years and be worth a lot! I hope neither side will win, but i think Microsoft is more important then Google.

I hope they don't get taken over by another company because they're so damaged by the Lawsuit. Or maybe I'm just acting pesimistic, although I don't think this'll turn out to badly for either.

If I was a betting person I place my bet on MicroDot for they already won the fight against the US goverment. Yes the walked out with a slap on the wrist. But if they would of gotton what you or me had gotten they would of really been hurt then. To microdot they could lose a few million and never know it was gone. what they are hating is that they lost a couple of brains. They were out payed and waited till there contract was up. Hope microdot gets buryed yet I know they always be on top. Look at netscape they fought microdot and they lost and think are now owned by microdot. sun micro systems belive the same happened to them. So what makes you belive google stands a chance. Microsoft already fought the goverment and other companys and won. So I place a bet on microsoft.

I say let them try. Competition is the driving force between the users getting better products, better services, better value, etc. Competition drives humanity to better themselves...and God knows M$ can better themselves ;) So yes, let them try, Google's big enough now to survive an onslaught by M$ probably as long as they don't underestimate the threat, so I say let the games begin.

Microsoft's definitely got the resources and a very nice past record in lawsuits .. but I sorta hope Google takes it to 'em. I see a lot of cool things coming outta Google - Gmail, Groups, News, Froogle .. not to mention a nice search tool. B) I hope for Google, but sadly, vote Microsoft claims victory.

I'm personally gonna stay on the fence for this slugfest. With 2 companies of this size, with this much muscle...its going to be a definet fun to watch. Although MS has the track record Google has the public backing I'd say.Yes I will definetly be watching this one.

Hi There,

I don't think that there is any reasons to be worried about Microsoft can "kill" Google of several of reasons.

Reason #1:

Someone has an product that are better designed and more public than Microsoft can handle. They did tried to "kill" Mozilla and then Netscape, did it worked? Nope, Mozilla really rules with their Firefox and Thunderbird applications and I think that it's just an question about time when they "kills" Microsoft's own IE (That actually are build on an Mozilla engine), then did they tried to kill Unix OS and here can we just conclude that with all these Linux distributions that are on the marked, and even for free, might be harder for the Multi Commercial Microsoft to handle. Google is still growing stronger and I think that the reason for that would be....

Reason #2:

Heavy weight engeneering in light weight design. What I mean about that is, that in all these years that I've been computering, does Microsoft's applications only growing heavier and heavier, without caring about that people don't buy new hard ware each sixth month, and new extremly expencive software every year just cause it behave someone else. I really think that it's possible to use old technology, and just fix the bugs instead of waste it to design new ones with new bugs, and that fact does I think that Google had understood as far as Mozilla and the Linux people has.

Reason #3:

I think that it has to be the time to Microsoft to accept that there is other people on the market who is better to design software than Microsoft themselves, and instead to fight to start to cooperate and integrate to make much more friendly platforms for all.

Ex. let the office application work with PHP and MySql or use Firefox in future versions of windows, and then use the energy to make Windows more stable and at least cheeper so normal regular people can get it.

So far, so good....

I can give more reasons here, but I really think that we as customer have the power to change the evaluation in this cold branch, as without us there wouldn't be any industries....

So let us fight the power...

Cheers!

Jens

I have to agree with what Logan Deathbringer says. Yes, Microsoft and Google are big, big companies. For example, check eBay and Dell... approximately $8 a share about 10 years ago. I think they mulitipled like 30,000%!!!Anyway, this will definitely be a fun, entertaining, and interesting thing to watch over the years. Microsoft takes a vow to kill Google... to cripple it once and for all while Google is trying to hold its ground. It's like two Godzillas trying to kill each other...Hahaha!

To be very honest, Microsoft has a behavioral problem that needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Microsoft's dispute against Google probably isn't competitive, business-wise. Judging by the words, Microsoft's resentment is based on personal feelings.Because Microsoft and Google are both two completely different services (Microsoft specializes in computers whereas Google is a search engine), they probably won't go through with their threats.Besides, what's the worst Microsoft can do? After all, the worst that can happen is they send all their clients an email calling Google a "bad, bad man." Google, on the other hand, has the power to cut off spider-searching from all aspects of Microsoft. This can do a lot because Google is ranked number one as the most visited site, thereby making Microsoft lose the masses of potential customers.I guess this only goes to show, look at the bigger picture before doing anything, especially saying stupid things like wanting to "kill" a company that can potentially retaliate and strike down your business.

Microsoft's vow to kill Google was only made because their scared. Microsoft pretty much had a mononpoly over PCs in general. Considering a vast majority of computer users still dont have a clue what they're doing, Microsoft uses that to their advantage by creating "user-friendly" programs and OSs. Google may have started as just a search engine, but they're expanding... fast. The way I see it, Google could take on Microsoft. Especially because Microsoft has made their so-called vow. That just means that Microsoft thinks Google is a threat and can overpower them... Don't get me wrong, I use tons of Microsoft programs, and my PC runs off Windows... As far as providing good software for their consumers, they're good, but as far as commercialism goes, a lot of their stuff is overpriced and there are others that can provide similar products, cheaper. They're just in it for the money... I say, more power to Google...

I seriously dont thinko that they will "kill"/shut down Google. Google hasnt done ANYTHING wrong exept providing help to people in what they want to find. Their not the ones providing cracks, warez, pron or anything else illegal. They do the same thing as any other search engine does like Yahoo/AltaVista and other famour search engines. The only difference is that Google has the most links provided. What google basicly does is provide us in what we want to find. They just do what they did before it was even famous. It would take alot of the Warez and illegal acts on the Internet but the webmasters woud basicly go on to another web engine and the same thing will start happening like Google. Also alot of other search engines who "feed"(take links out of Google) would be mad about this, and would team up with Google and make an even BIGGER search engine. If Microsoft does shut down Google, then everyone on the Internet will get mad, and it will cause alot of trouble. B)
