malish 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2005 I have 2 computers in my home network. Both of them have 100Mb D-Link NIC cards and everything is 100% checked and compatible. The thing is when you trying to transfer files or sometimes even when you play a game, internet crashes and it takes about 5-10 seconds to renew. Can anyone tell what are the possible reasons? BlueMountain 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2005 en, try to reboot all your router/modem devices and flash the fireware to the up to date version, I used to have a d-link wireless router, and sometimes it keeps rebooting and I GUESS another possible reason is the voltage is not stable, or fire is not well connected, cos the modem I am using sometimes just keep dropping off
loganbest 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2005 First things first: D-link is trash, use SMC or Blitzz.Second: you might be trying to put too much of a load on the router when you try to transfer files via internet.Third: t also might be the Firmware, I suggest going to the D-Link Website and looking for your router and downloading a firmware upgrade if possible. rapco 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 Man!!!! i had the exact same problem but with a D-Link 524... it was hell!!!!!!!!!!!I prefered not to use it, i even gave it back.... the thing is, my brother in law bouht one along with me, and he trashed the box, and without it he couldn't give it back... So, because i'ma computer freak (jejeje) he left it over in my house.. who knew, maybe i could fix it after all.....I even try to get help here: Hi!I'm having trouble with my new router, it's a D-link DI524, i can't keep my conection stable, in resume, i wrote to D-Link tech support, i wrote:QUOTEHi!I just bought a DI-524, and i did every step of the quick guide installation...The thing is, i'm hard-wire connected but my connection goes down.. restores... goes down.. restore... every 5 minutes!!!!What can i do to solve this????They answered the following:QUOTEDavid, if the connection drops on all computers simultaneously, then try using the crash recovery method flash the 1.05 firmware. Download the firmware 1.05 from the link given below. http://support.dlink.com/ErrorPage.htm.To crash recover:Step 1 Unplug the power from the router. Hold in the reset button and plug the power back in. Continue holding for 10 seconds and then release.Step 2 Statically assign an IP address to your computer in the same IP subnet range: 192.168.0.x where x is any number between 2 and 254. Your Subnet Mask should be 255.255.255.0.Please visit the link given below for screenshots in assigning static IP.http://support.dlink.com/ErrorPage.htmStep 3 Open Internet Explorer and browse to 192.168.0.1. You should see the crash recovery page. Browse to the location of the firmware on your hard-drive and click the send button.Your router should now be stable and ready to configure. Please visit http://support.dlink.com/ErrorPage.htm if you are unable to visit the web configuration. If the issue persists, you may be experiencing trouble with a feature known as UPnPâ˘. This feature allows Windows XP and Me machines to remotely open necessary ports for Internet Applications. You may try disabling UPnP (on the router as well as your computers) to see if this cures your reset woes. Log into the web-based configuration, access the Tools page, then the Misc. button. Choose the disabled button next to UPnP. Click Apply. You should no longer experience the frequent resets.Should you require further assistance with your D-Link products, please reply to this message, or call toll free at 877-453-5465. Thank you for networking with D-Link.Sincerely,SHANE WALTERSD-Link Technical SupportI tried all of it!wrote them again and got this:QUOTEDavidWe understand that you are unable to maintain a stable link to the internet through the DI-624_revC. This is probably happening because the router is rebooting itself for some reason as a result of which the link between the router and your PCs is lost for a brief period of time.** Refer the following FAQ that addresses this specific issue :http://www.support.dlink.com/ErrorPage.htmIn case the issue persists, we would recommend a firmware upgrade in order to correct the situation. Refer the following FAQ for a detailed step-by-step instruction guide on carrying out a firmware upgrade :http://support.dlink.com/ErrorPage.htmThis should help you complete the firmware update successfully. Upgrading to the latest firmware is what we recommend. If you happen to have the latest firmware installed, reflash the same once anyways. Another option would be to update the firmware on the router to earlier version. Note that all earlier firmware versions are available for download at the following link :http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/Hopefully, this should be all that you need to do in order to see your particular concerns addressed. In the case that the above mentioned steps fail to provide you with the desired result, it would be best for you to speak to a live technician using the following contact information :877-45D-Link (877-453-5465)They would be able to help you out best as regards further instructions.Any inconvenience caused is duly regretted.Should you require further assistance with your D-Link products, please reply to this message, or call toll free at 877-453-5465. SocietalEclipse 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2005 For a larger group of people dealing with the same router and same problems head over to http://www.dslreports.com/forum/dlink and sign up. There's been a fair share of D-Link headaches going around from the router's tendency to reboot under certain conditions (that aren't always diagnoseable). In some cases a new power supply fixes the problem if the case the voltage wasn't quite high enough. Other people have found fixes entirely from firmware upgrades. One of the great things about this forum is that members from other nations generally post new beta firmware versions before they become publically available in the US. Also there is something called the "Crash Recovery Method" you can learn more about there. It's basically like giving your router a lobotomy before flashing the new firmware... I hope you can get your problem fixed so you don't have to junk and otherwise nice piece of electronics.
