This is a tutorial for requesting Free Professional Webhosting from Xisto and uploading files to your webspace, enjoy!

Post contructively in the forums, and when you get to 10 Hosting Credits (number of credits is displayed on the main board index here), then go to the Hosting Requests Forum and find the link to the registration form. Go to the link and fill out the form. Copy and paste the result of the form into a new post into the Hosting Requests forum. Post it and then wait for an administrator to approve or deny it. You will be notified by email at the address you provided whilst registering for this forum.

To upload files: Once your hosting has been approved and set up, go to yoursite.astahost.com/cpanel or yousite.com/cpanel an login. Go to File Manager under Site Management. If you want the file(s) to be viewable by the public, make sure you upload to the public_html folder. Navigate to where you want to upload your files by clicking the folder icon of the place where you want to upload to. Click Upload files. Click Browse, then navigate to where the file is stored on your computer (you can use the different Browse buttons to specify a number of different files). Double-click it and then click Upload. Your file should now upload. If not, please feel free to post in the Hosted Member area to ask for help!

Hi,

This is a tutorial designed to help people get free hosting from Xisto and upload whatever files they wish to have on the web. This tutorial will assume that you are just starting out at Xisto and have less than 10 hosting credits. It will also assume that you want to sign up for the Starter Package to create a website that is publicly viewable:

Step 1 - Getting Hosting:

The first thing you need to do to get started on the web is get hosting. Hosting allows you to upload files to a web server (computer designed to show files on the internet) and some other things too.

Xisto offer free webhosting to members of their forum that actively contribute to the forum. To get the Starter Hosting Package, you must get 10 Hosting Credits. (The number of credits can be seen on the main page of the board HeRe.) DO NOT SPAM TO GET CREDITS, YOU MAY BE BANNED FROM THE FORUM AND ANY CHANCE OF GETTING HOSTING MAY BE LOST!

So, make meaningful posts in the forums, and when you get to 10 Hosting Credits, go here. Fill in this form and click continue at the bottom of the page.

Copy the code from this new page (In Windows, highlight it and press Control+C).

Make a new thread here.

Paste the code into the body of the post (In Windows, highlight it and press Control+C).

Post it (Alt+S in Windows).

Now wait for an Administrator to approve your hosting.

If your hosting is approved (check your email, including your junk/spam mail folder to find out) click on this link. Now click on "1. Create a Hosting Account."

Fill in the form, making sure you follow all the instructions exactly.

Click on Submit at the bottom of the page to proceed.

FROM THIS POINT ON, DO NOT RELOAD, STOP, PRESS BACK OR CLOSE THIS BROWSER WINDOW/TAB!!! The only exception to this is if an error message appears and it suggests that the process of creating your account has halted. If this happens, press back on your browser and make sure you have filled in the form correctly. Try submitting it again and if you continue to have problems, post HeRe.

Once your account has been created (this may take a long time), save a copy of the information being displayed on this page onto your computer (Control+A, Control+C, Open a blank text document and press Control+V then save the document to somewhere you will be able to find it if you need to. However, be very wary of letting anyone else see this data if it contains any passwords.)

Congratulations, you now have a webhosting account!

Step 3 - Change cPanel password:

Go to the following web address:

yoursite.astahost.com or yoursite.com -

where yoursite is your subdomain or yoursite.com is your domain (more advanced and usually paid for). If you have not paid for anything, chances are you will have a subdomain and should go to:

yoursite.astahost.com

Read the information on this page. You may want to note it for future reference.

Now you need to login to cPanel and change your password, like it says on the page you have just read.

To do this: go to yoursite.astahost.com/cpanel. Enter the username and password you provided on the account sign-up form (the one where you chose your site's address). Click on Login.

Once you are logged into cPanel, click on the Change Password icon under Site Management:

Now read the information and fill out the form. Click Change your password now!

Step 4 - Upload Your Files (Yay!):

You are now ready to upload your files. First of all go to File Manager under Site Management.

In File Manager, navigation is performed by clicking on the folder icon next to where you want to go to. To upload a file, you must be in the place you want to upload to. If you are going to upload a standard website to yoursite.com, then navigate to public_html.

Once here, click on Upload Files.

For every file you want to upload, click Browse, and locate the file on your computer. Double-click the file. Remember to select any images you need. When you have selected all the files you want to upload, or have run out of Browse buttons, click Upload.

Your files should upload. If you need to upload more files, simply repeat the process. Now you can view your site!

The home/start page of your site must be called index.php

You can rename a file by clicking on it's name and selecting Rename file from the right hand side menu.

Just go to yousite.com and as long as you have named your homepage correctly (index.something), you should see your site. If you don't try clicking reload or refresh (often F5 in Windows browsers).

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

You have just uploaded your website!
