Fedora Core 3 And Vmware

Recommended Posts

Hi,Everyone uses Windows, but I think Windows is not a good operating system at all. I use Fedora Core 3 (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) as a main operating system and it is all ok. It gives me everything I need. Easy to install, easy to configure, easy to maintain, free. Nothing else you need. Many people told me that they doesn't run Unix based operating systems because they will not be able to use Win32 applications. In fact, there are 2 options to run "Windows" or any other operating system from a Unix box. The first one is to use an emulator (such as Wine for runing Win32 apps on Linux). It is true that the applications will not work exactly like running directly on Windows, but it's all ok if you want to run simple applications. The other way would be to run virtual machines. You need a good machine, but on my computer (Intel P4 3 Ghz, 1 GB RAM) I can run Fedora Core 3 (as host), Solaris and Windows (as Virtual Machines) at the same time. For creating virtual machines I use VMWare 5 (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) but there are many other to use.

I've never tried using another operating system other then windows, but I don't do much in the way of gaming or anythign other then surfing the net and downloads and chatting. Is there much of a difference to jump from operating system to operating system? I've contomplated modding my xbox to a linux box as something of a test to see how I feel about Linux. What are the best free operating systems and how do they differ from windows? just in general?

Way to go flachi :) finally someone right after my heart. Fedora ROCKZZ !! Infact the whole Linux bandwagon RULEZ.. To hell with windows :) Similar to everyone - I wouldn't be using it if not for the fact that quite a few of my fav. games don't run on Linux even with WINE. Virtual machines are a different story altogether :) But nothing like Linux. I wouldn't even dream of running a server on anything remotely associated with Windows.

Well, I am very happy that you agree with me.In my opinion, people should be redirected to other operating systems than Windows. Windows is generally for kiddies. For real people there are many good operating systems. So, anyone who use Linux, please tell the others how nice it is. If you don't use Linux, just try it (maybe a distribution for begginers at first, such as Mandrake).Linux RULEZ, Fedora ROCKS, Unix is the father and mother of everything. :)
