Design A Forum

Recommended Posts

Hi warriors - while Invision Power Board is really powerful in handling high load forums, and vBulletin is one of the best when you consider the looks (hundreds of really beautiful skins available for it) - you might also consider using the freeware opensource ones like SMF - Simple Machines Forum. At it's current release it has come upto almost it's commercial counterparts - though it still lacks in many respects... But SMF is free and easy to setup. From Fantastico in cPanel it's a one-click job. Give it a try - or see it in action... http://www.simplemachines.org/

It's got hundreds of cool skins/modules/add-on stuff that you can plug into your board to give it even more functionality :(
I'd say try SMF for a starter...

Here's a list of demonstration forums:
1. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
2. http://ww4.forum500.com/
3. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
4.

Lol.. not that I know of - InvisionFree is still Free but it's in almost stone ages compared to the recent advances in Forum Systems. vBulletin and Invision Power are both fully commercial.. The only way to grab these is from someone who's got a registered copy and is willing to share it with you :D (okay - I didn't give u this advice :D ) Otherwise, SMF is your best bet. Ooo.. another one I completely forgot to mention is phpBB - even that's free and can be downloaded from https://www.phpbb.com/ .. Only problem with this is it's got some well known security issues as well as doesn't support multiple levels of subforums like IPB/vBulletin/SMF. You can have forums only one level deep in this one...

Give it a shot - I'd say try out both SMF and phpBB parallely and see which one you can operate easier and feel more at home with..

Good luck :(
