Now I see! How blind I was before! My silly pursuit of quality, stability, security and useability has been in vain. Now I see how useless it all is in the face of the possible release of a game for me to waste my time on, some unknown years in the future!(6 if like the last time) I have no idea what IE has to do with it, but I was wrong! All the viruses and spyware, all the crashes, reformats, and assorted glitches are nothing in the face of being able to run some games that don't exist yet because I have nothing better to do with my time! Not to mention all nifty upgrades I can spend my money on, and time on, in order to keep ahead of windows bloat! How would I fill my time without those wonderfull things!

[/end sarcasm]

a message to all hackers here if any .. I am using Windows XP sp2 with IE 6.0 ( maxthon ) and Microsoft AntiSpyware beta ... HACK ME IF YOU CAN !

Fine. Just post your IP, and a message explicitly allowing people to hack your machine 'if they can'. I wouldn't suggest it though.

oh btw my ip is

82.201.174.33

hack me now please

I have port 4662 opened too , if that might help .

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

:P, very funny. BTW, your outside IP is 82.201.174.33, you internal network looks like it's using the 10.0.0.0 ip range and your adsl router answers to 10.0.0.138 (configuration page) but you set the password. :)

This was found using only admin net tools I use here, and "dig". Look in your firewall log and you'll see 207.*.*.238.

IS it an HoneyNet or something like this?I agree with you, but...If you use GPL/Linux you can set a firewall(Iptables) that it's better than 2 win firewall used togethere...it works directly from the kernel and in win you cannot do that

The best way to make me(and the others) shut up is to ignore us, not post flamebait.

Also, while you said you run microsoft anti-spyware you should also run adaware and spybot search and destroy. They see ones that Microsoft does not.

If you like mirosoft, fine. Great. But just as you disagree with us, we disagree with you. Instead of posting stuff meant to be incensing, post reasons why YOU like them, as opposed to just why others are wrong. THAT is what makes it flamebait.

Also, If you are gonna lower my reputation, at least know what you are talking about. You said I don't like free speach unless you like linux. This isn't true, since *I* don't like linux. Don't be so immature.

first off

your absolutely wrong

Microsoft Antispyware is actualy Giant Antispyware and award winning adware/spyware cleaner ( PC magazine editors choice )

Microsoft simply bought the WHOLE company

and ReRELEASED giant antisypware as Microsoft Antispyware .. I have been using Giant Antispyware since year or so and it's 10000 times better than these you mentioned cause i tried them and it fix IEs hijacks and protects as well .

2nd of all , you are so full of nonesense (sorry 2 say so ).. .IF I LIKE SOMETHING then I SHOULDNT GIVE PROOF on why i like it . on the contrary .. if you hate SOMETHING you should PROVIDE REASONS FOR HATING it ...

I am not immature , immaturity is accomplished by inventing that tool ( reputation thing itself and using it ) , it's simply as if you can't prove your point so you spray me with a black paint ...

so trying to defend my self using ur way is propably the best way , since you dont listen/understand what i am saying ,you're just convinced with one thing and keep repeating it all over again ... whatever i say ur going to say what you said ..

speaking of ur reputation thingie .. NilsC..told me that this is not FLAME BAIT i am doing , he's a moderator and i think ... if u allow him to .. he knows more than you about flaming or not .. so please now let us all in piece .. and go kill bill gates if you hate him that much ..

you're so strange ..

I think it's funny that we get riled up about an opinion. Opinions are like (cencored) and we all have one.I use XP everyday, I use w98 everyday, I use SCO *nix everyday, etc etc. I'm not taking sides, I don't think it's flame baiting. There is no adverse reactions when similar (not same) posts are put on on Linux or MAC. I think we have a good post here that could be informative if we "all of us" took a step back, looked at it objectively and then shake hands and continue to have a informative forum. If this escalates into something personal then I think we have to close the post, for now I feel it should stay open and we need to put things in perspective. :) Long live the community. :):P Nils

I didn't say that giant/Microsoft anti-spyware sucked, I said you should ALSO run adaware and spybot. I agree that the giant one gets more than the others, but the other two STILL get some that giant doesn't. So, to help guanantee that you get everything, you should run all three.

I use windows on my PC, because I like it more than linux, and this is what I do, for the reasons stated above.

So, no, I am not absolutely wrong, you just aren't reading my posts.

And, since you requested it, Reasons why I Dislike(not hate) windows, and similar list for linux. In addition, I have listed why I like certain platforms, because I feel that one should do that. This way we can both be happy.

Windows:

XP registration sillyness.

Bad security setup(you are correct that if you are carefull, don't click on bad attachments and so on, you won't have too much of a problem. However, I feel you shouldn't have to worry about it. I also feel that microsoft has had long enough to make this not an issue at all, and they haven't, at least to my satisfaction). Still: comes with ports left open, bad user management for handling programs and such(partly a creation of third parties. Windows on the other hand makes it easy to build in such problems).

Assorted useability/niceness stuff: Having to defrag disks(new filesystems exist which don't have this issue. You should be able to use them). Bad/useless help(not always, but at least for me, most of the time). Often requires third party tools to fix problems(you shouldn't need any of the anti-spyware things discussed. OR it should come with a solution for these problems built in. Maybe microsoft will do this in the future). And there is more, but that is a good enough amount. If they fixed it all that would probably be enough.

Things I like: Lots of software, some of it good. Most of the good stuff is expensive(more than $50).

Linux:

Things I do not like: Almost all useability. Abysmal UI design for KDE and to a lesser extent gnome. Had to setup(compared to other consumer OS's), requiring a lot of knowledge(USB should never have issues, but it does sometimes). Still requires use of the command line(yes I know some people like it, but I don't, and I feel that there are faster ways of doing just about any of the things you need a command line for, perhaps linux users just aren't aware of them/haven't built them yet). It comes with lots and lots of software, providing lots and lots of choices except the one I really want to make: not to have to deal with sorting it all out. This is slowly being improved. I look forward to it. The best thing In the world would be linux becoming as nice as windows or even...mac os, in terms of useability.

Lack of commercial software as good as that which is available for mac and windows. It has lots of 'replacements' but these are rarely as nice as the other versions.

Things I like:

Much of the above can partly be excused because it is free. You get what you pay for. (Pay-for OS's have no excuse. Especially windows, they jave had....9 years to get the 9x-Nt based OS's right, and approx. one metric ton of money to do it with)

It is open source, which I like from a philosophical standpoint.

It is low on (software level) bugs.

MacOS X

Things I dislike:

Lower availability of software compared to windows. This is low however because the things that do exist are all very very good, so I find I simply do not need all the random bits I did on windows.

Small UI things: I could write a paper on this. However, they are all *very* minor. I only notice because I studied ergo in college, and its something I pay a lot of attention to (as you may have noticed). If you really want to read a nitpicky speil on this, just pm me.

Only runs on PPC stuff. I hope some day Apple changes this. It is overpriced(though they do make up for it at least some what with bundled software, and the hardware is of excellent quality).

Things I like:

Excellent UI design. Except for small things, gets basically everything right. Partly because of:

Excellent underlying software architexture. Cocoa and other such tech allows easy, stable, feature rich while easy to use(due to Apple's human interface guidelines)

Strong, robust, software that works like magic.

The "it just works" effect with the hardware I plug in.

Open, as compared to windows(though not as much as linux, maybe someday.....well, one can hope(not gonna happen).

Access to linux/unix software(though it takes more work than it should. Apple should improve this.)

Finally, it is stable, relatively secure, and has an excellent security model out of the box with its rootless mode(though it should have the firewall enabled by default. Granted, it doesn't need this as much since most all ports are off anyway).

they are many factors needed to be considered while selecting os. examples: personally, i like windows to be at my desktop pc(easy gui, many h/w support, games, etc, etc), but i love linux to operate my servers(stability, low resource consumption, etc, etc).then why ppl hate microsoft? because they are trying to manipulate the software market, domanating every inch of the planet with their products. while doing that, they will crush other software companies(such as they tried to do to Netscape) and bragging about their software, etc, etc. this bad bussiness acts are the reasons ppl hates MS alot. you got to understand that.still dont believe me? remember this:1. MS embeded IE into windows installation, thus giving Netscape a hard time to market their browser.2. MS bought Hotmail to dominate the Internet's Community.3. MS developed "Messenger" to defeat "yahoo messenger".4. Telling that Win2k is the most stable OS in the world, but they r wrong. Linux is better.and many more. that's why ppl hates them.

The thing is, I don't hate them so much as I dislike their business practices. That said, i was talking about the OS itself more than the company.

In the end, I want one of two results:

1. A couple of major OS's competing, resulting in higher quality for everyone(MS only improved windows due to linux as a threat)

2. A single OS that is open, free, and very easy to use, creating a common platform that can be used safely, where applications can compete. If OSX ever became open source, that would do it. My hope is that linux gets there somehow, or that Apple becomes magically nice.
