Could you restate more clearly? I for one have no idea what you are trying to say.

Let me take a stab ...

In Uruguay, there are professionals who make a decent living examining individuals past lives. What do you think about this idea?

How's that?

You rock hashbang.

Well, I think they are full of it. It strikes me as too easy to fake to generally be legit, and how would one read someone's past life anyway? Right, Psychic power. Psychic power doesn't have a good track record. There has been some real research on reincarnation, and its interesting stuff, but if anythiny it strikes me(from what I read) as making this even more doubtful(the research was actually trying to demonstrate evidence for past lives, and was doing as good a job as you can on stuff like that.)

So, to summarize: I think it is BS for a buck.

GreatFrog,

I agree with you.

and so does a million bucks and the Amazing Randi (check out his webbie here). As a matter of fact, those who believe in psychic power use similar logic to the 'faith' and 'one true' religion posters seen on these forums.

Personaly, I've read a lot on this subject because I have found it interesting and a bit controversial. I have read many recent documented accounts which state events of past-life regressionj amongst younger children. In many of the cases, the child, around the age of 4-11, would demonstrate odd behaviour claiming that their family is not their family, they would talk about a loved one, or say things that a young child shouldnt know or that just don't make sense. Kinda creepy, huh? So the families would take their children to specialists, and talk to the child one on one and gather all the information the child is claiming. Then the doctor would find that family which the 'reincarnated spirit' would have allegedly come from, and they would talk to the family. The family would talk with the child about things only they knew about, and all the facts in every case we're confirmed. I found it to be very interesting, all this recorded in recent history and still happening around the world. Now, without a doubt, I am sure there are fake people claiming to be able to read into people's past lives. I suppose it would be hard to determine that sort of thing, as the validity of it. Personally, I wouldnt waste my money on it, unless for whatever reason i trusted the person and I was convinced in the validity of it. But I still find it an interesting subject...

A great example of this is "The Children that Time forgot" by Peter and Mary Harrison - It's the book that made my mother change her views about reincarnation.

In my own beliefs, reincarnation is a definite. As for regressing to past lives, I'm not so sure. Remembering past lives I have not problem with (as with the above book) but deliberately seeking them out seems a little dubious. After all, I know two separate people who both claim to have been Henry VIII. (They both used hypnotic regression)

The best way to know what happened in your past life is to look at your life as it is at the moment. Every action has a reaction, and your present existence is the best indicator of your past existences. Therefore, if you want your future existences to be a pleasant experience, maybe you should start doing something about it now...

It,s easy to dismiss reincarnation,as it is with most other paranormal phenomena, they don't seem to be repeatable. But the evidence is somewhat overwhelming now that there is a facet of nature we do not understand Consider this- science is not omnipitant, it has been wrong in the past, we are wrong to worship science as the only God

I am a scientist and a Christian. Science is not about belief but about training in a methodology. There are those with no such training with the ridiculous idea that they are the "true scientists" because they have made a life commitment to always think in empirical terms. These poor deluded people have indeed turned science into a religion. But to say that they worship science as the only God is still a rather queer thing to say.

Regardless, recognizing the rather obvious fact that science is the best means that human beings have ever devised for getting at the truth about the world around them IS NOT in any way shape or form worshipping science as a god let alone the only god. Furthermore the fact the science understands when it is wrong is a great part of its power. Religion rarely even agrees on what is correct let alone recognizes when it is wrong.

Now I am very much a believer in the necessary importance of religion in human life, and very much a critic of the rather aburd idea that science is the be all and end all of human life. I not only know that the objective methodology of science is incapable of determining the truth about all things, but I believe that there is an irreducibly subjective aspect to reality. But by that very belief, I am thoroughly convinced we have to accept that diversity is one of the unavoidable characteristics of religion. It may indeed get at truths that work for those that find them. But belief and desire is an essential part of it and its methods are subjective, so it is unreasonable to expect that everyone is going to accept the validity of any such approach.

Personally, I do not believe in reincarnation. All of the so called "evidence" can have all sorts of other explanations both scientific and non-scientific. Creepy indeed! The spiritual posession of a child by some old creep is rather disgusting to me.
