NilsC 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 (It may sound like an oxymoron, but here we go) :)I like the first site, did not go in there to far and long :)I have a hard time with dark backgrounds and light blue font colors I seem to loose the contranst and then I have to lean forward to read what is there. (It's propably my old age... but I never stay on websites with dark background) The second webpage is very nice, I like your warning that the site is under constuction. The water applet seems to be running constantly in the background and I'm browsing with tabs and If I right click on one of the other pages or use a drop down menu it flickers (the same way your screen flicker when you use a cell phone close to it) I also messes with the start menu and any other program running on my computer. All in all nice sites.Nils
jipman 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 I just don't like the java thingy. and as Nils said, the dark background kinda gets quite irritating to look at. And why do i get a weird popup if i click on the logo?
pbolduc 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 I have a hard time with dark backgrounds and light blue font colors and as Nils said, the dark background kinda gets quite irritating to look at.Thanks to both of you for viewing. My wife has been trying to get me off of the dark backgrounds for years. I appreciate your opinions.I don't know why the applet seems to keep running. Any ideas?I click the applet and got the same window. Never realized it before. It was generated with a free code generator and pop up link must be hidden in the generated code. Thanks guys. NilsC 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 (edited) The popup are removed when you use the registered paid version, I have the same script generator but I'm kind of against scripts so I don't use it much. I downloaded the same program and on the site it said the popup is removed with paid / registerd version (did I just repeat myself) :)Looks like the water code is using some kind of pressure calculation (Not sure if that is a correct expression) and If you look at the water the top left and right corners look like they alway move (fluid motion like a wave with short wave periods)Your wife must be a smart woman if she told you for years to switch to a lighter background :)Nils Edited January 5, 2005 by NilsC (see edit history)
jipman 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 It might be better to use a animated Gif instead of the java thingy.
Xaine 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 The load time on the banner there was only a few seconds but like others have said anytime you do much of anything else it flickers. But I don't know how to make it otherwise. But it still looks nice, I don't really mind the background but the bright text gets to my eyes and I can't look at it very long. Your first one is better in that area I did not have any problems there.
Serendipitous 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Went to both of the sites and I didn't have any trouble with either. They are both very simple but seem to contain the information needed by the customer. Followed all the links and didn't have any problems. I agree with your wife and many others who have replied to your post that it is dark and perhaps you could consider another color scheme, but overall it works well the way it is. On the second site the java didn't take long to load and I thought it was cute and fun to play with. Of course, I love all things aquatic.. hehe Anyway, thats my input hope it helped in some way. pbolduc 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 (edited) Your wife must be a smart woman if she told you for years to switch to a lighter background Yeah, she informed me it wasn't a p**n site. lol She is quite a woman... be lost without her.I realized about the pop-up... am too cheap to send in the money for that download. There are some good image fades though. Thanks again to all for your perspectives.pete Edited January 6, 2005 by NilsC (see edit history)

Thanks again to all for your perspectives. pete <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's not A p**n site, I can understand the cheap part. I have to learn that way, but when I find something useful that cost $ I can order it. That is the nice thing if you are figuring out stuff on company time As for perspectives, I don't know... hehe. I started looking at websites and editing after the company spent a lot of money to get a 3'rd class website that are a nightmare to update. It's not like here with 'cpanel' and all the goodies. I have to ftp the site to my computer. Hunt down where I need to change and then upload and pray it still looks good....... I'm learning a lot from all the members here, including you. It's a pleasant challenge and I enjoy the learning aspect. Nils PS I edited the p**n so it will not be indexed.

Also http://www.nomonthlyfees.com/ is a pretty good cpanel hosting site that is only $70.00 a year. 600 megs and all the bells and whistles. Worth checking out, it is where I have RuidosoToday.com hosted, which by the way is comming along quite nicely and should be operational soon. The guy offered me a 50/50 partnership to complete and maintain the site. pete
wwheeler 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I personally don't like the applet. I am into the static thing myself, no moving graphics.I think that the layout is great enough that you don't need the logo there. Also, (and I think that everyone can agree here) I am not a fan of the dark background/blue text.....If you could go with a white BG and some shade of green, or any other non-dithering color for the text, that will be a killer site....as for the load time on the second site, it was about 2 seconds for my comp to load and display it....
