New To Css Looking for help in css for web design.

Recommended Posts

Good evening all, I have just started getting into web design and I am doing this all on my own(aka self taught). I would really like any suggestions that people would be willing to give. Mainly I am interested in getting unique page effects(page transitions, photo effects, cursor effects, etc..). What is out there, and please don't limit your comments to css, I am interested in anything that can add to the look of my page...Svain

I think the kind of things that you have mentioned would be better done in DHTML (Dynamic Hyper Text Mark-up Language), this is a dynamic version of HTML which will allow you to do the things you want, and Javascript.

If you have time go to http://www.w3schools.com/ there is alot of information on languages there that i think will help you alot and to meet certain web standards in the future.

DHTML Sites:

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/

http://www.dhtmlshock.com/

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

To do the page transition things you want you can do it with Meta tags, here is a site i have found for that:

http://www.pageresource.com/dhtml/jtut2.htm

http://www.permadi.com/tutorial/iePageTransition/index.html

The page transitions will only work with crappy browsers like IE, i have tested them and they don't work with FireFox, or new browsers...i think.

Cursor effects can be done with Javascript and DHTML i think as can Photo Effects. I think that the photo effects like fade out and in and the like will only work with IE (i think). if you will use filters that belong to IE they may not work.

Cursor effects:

http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/cutindex18.shtml

Most effects with images, forms and text will most probably only work with IE, so do your self a favour and get Mozilla or Firefox. As well as that Mozilla offers more security and full support for CSS and CSS 2. Go get it :P

CSS is a very important tool in my opinon. It is capable of making the smallest changes...to dynamic ones, depending on how you use it. I suggest going to http://www.pixel2life.com/ for anything you may need svain ^_^

Once you get the hang of it, CSS is really easy. And it's not very hard to learn, either. I learned CSS from https://www.wired.com/ (in fact, I learned just about everything I know from there). It's a great site with some simple but good tutorials to start with. And they have an HTML cheatsheet that comes in handy for people like me who forget simple HTML codes.

Type Anfy into your search engine. You can find a neat JavaTM code generator here, as well as others. It provides a simple point and click interface that creates some great affects on the site. Easy to use. ^_^

AceHTMLPro5 has a great CSS feature that implements the code directly into your page. Solid documentation in the Help Section (easy to get to when you need it). ^_^
