Is Gdp Growth A Real Indicator Of Progress?

Everyone screams about rising GDP growth and a lowering of GDP growth. But can someone explain me that how it affects real growth.To put it simply a big GDP growthfigure does really mean that the whole of the society is progressing and a sizable section of people belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) is crossing the mark or the margin separating between poor and middle class.Because it takes a lot of time to make a person cross this boundary.
