Design New Forum's Logo

Recommended Posts

Rvalkass, nice logo -- but I think this one is a little too flat and doesn't stand out much. And what is the vector/snow flake thing on the left? Maybe you can use a different one or add someone extra to it?

The forum's skin is fairly clean, elegant and understated. In my eye using a really busy, colourful logo just doesn't look quite right :P I originally had a question mark in the middle of the thing on the left, to represent knowledge/questions/problem solving/etc. but it didn't turn out that well. I shall have another go and post that version. Also, I picked that design as I think it represents people (the little circles) being drawn into a great community (the big circle), or possibly the notion of connecting ideas and thoughts, a bit like a spider diagram.

I actually like yours best, rvalkass. :D

I'm not sure why, but minimalism in design has always appealed and always will appeal (or at least I think so) to me.

Another thing I wanted to say; although the logo-exchange thing OpaQue suggested a couple of days ago here at first seemed OK (due to the many logotypes we've received), I now think it'd be a whole lot better if only one was featured. It seems more professional, and wouldn't make a newbie confused in the sense of "Am I in the right place?". It would also decrease load times of the page (maybe not much, but at least a bit).

This is my opinion, though, and I understand if OpaQue decides on logo exchange thing. After all, everyone who posted here did an effort to make the forum logo. ;)

Little A, I don't think you are looking at the large picture here. Many people have made a logo for Xisto, and since it's the "grand openning" and stuff, it would be good to show the efforts of members and their creative ness -- after a while we can change it to only logo, after a while though.

And how the heck will they ask "Am I in the right place?", everyone one of the logo/banner have the SAME sitename and SAME motto... they just change once in a while -- its not strange at all, many sites do this.

About the page load thing -- i think PHP loads them one by one each time they change, so they shouldn't see a decrease in the speed of the page.

Maybe so, we'll see.

I stand by the opinion maybe rotating banners aren't the best solution, but decide for yourself. Time will show. ;)

i found this script for banner rotator, it is simple and works fine, i tested it myself. so i though it may help.

this code will be in a separate php file, for example banner.php.

<?php$Img1 ="path image1 ";$Img2 ="path image2 ";$Img3 ="path image3 ";$num = rand (1,3);$Image = ${'Img'.$num};Print "<img src=\"".$Image."\" >"; ?>

and you must use the include function to call banner.php

<?php include("banner.php");?>

rvalkass's logo seems really good. Maybe after seeing so many complicated designs, the simple one is looking very neat and wel-fitting. Since we have so many good contributions, the rotation system is not a bad idea. However, why don't we go ahead another step and introduce more themes to choose from, with each theme having a different logo contributed by our members? That way the members would have more choice and everyone's logo would get equal chance to be on display. Am I making any sense?

I think its about time we changed the FREAKING logo! Just pick one and just upload the logo. jeez... who long is it going to take to just upload a simple logo? 30 seconds? Or just use WD's code to create the banner rotating thing... I'm getting bored of this logo... I think its about time we change it... :(

Wow you must be looking at that logo daily if you're bored of it already! I hardly look at it anymore and unless someone mentions it like this I don't even remember that it's there! Hmm but I guess the new members will take notice of the logo so yeah, it might be better to change it.

deadmad- opaque never said he was going to pick one. if you can learn anything about the past, refer to when he started the thread about a new domain name. even though he put a voting poll didn't mean he was going to use it to make a decision. but i think what opaque is doing is trying to get the community involved since all inpujt is welcome. it certainly doesn't mean he will use any of the ideas.personally i like the current logo so i would like to see something similar without it being cut off. again, i think it's unprofessional to just slap on a logo that doesn't fit. the theme changed months ago and this cut off logo is still there.you asked me to make one in the past. and i had already told you i don't do logos or sigs. i don't do photoshop anymore. but i do like looking at other people's work and even stating an opinion about it from time to timei think "simple" for the most part works for most websites. if we made something simple for this site, it would have to reflect knowledge and spirituality. the only person who even came close to the actual theme was web designer. i would have liked to see more creativity in that area but i really haven't seen it.

Are you guys still looking for new logo designs? I have a few ideas if you are. Just curious :)

Sure you could display your idea(s) for the rest of the community to see. But as anwiii said earlier, there's no guarantee that Opaque will pick it as the new logo. You could still try though. If it's very good then there's no reason why it shouldn't be selected as the new logo :)

yeah zanzibarjones, please do. maybe your one will encourage opaque to change the current logo. and when deadmad said, he got sick of it, between me and myself, i said OH, GOD, i really get sick sick of it. it should be replaced with any logo presented here. they are all better than the current one, in my point of view. or at least, any graphic designer could fix it to be more suitable to the forums. i hope opaque will have the time to replace it or fix the current one as soon as possible. i am here most of the time, even if i was away from keyboard. i open the site and go to do works but keep an eye on the laptop. and always the first thing i see is this logo. it chasing me now everywhere :D hope it will be changed soon.

Well great then. I have an idea or two laying around that might work out well for this forum. So we will see. Of course, I will take criticism as it comes. I like learning from my mistakes. And i hope you guys are upfront and honest with me. It's the only way I will get better at what I do.

Don't worry... I'll try to be BLUNT :) Though, it is hard for someone innocent like me :D

Forum logo will be on a rotating basis as soon as OpaQue gives me the access to the image folder.The forum will always look for an image extension as the logo location (as OpaQue raised the question). Long ago, and far away a moderator names snlildude came up with a hack to "fool" the forum for having the "image.jpg" with php script executing. We will be using that trick again for our banner/logo rotation.I can't find the topic right now but he wrote a nice tutorial on sig rotation that we all used one point or another.
