New Year Resolutions: Make Yours Here Share personal aspirations/goals for the New Year and decade ahead

Recommended Posts

Are you prepared to leave behind this decade and embrace a brand new one? A brand New Year? If so, your efforts to usher in the new have found a fitting stage, a virtual diary, if you will. Voice your resolutions at will.

Now is the time to reflect on how you lived your life the last twelve months so that you might move forward with full memory, thus avoiding the ?walking dead? syndrome the majority often find themselves. They are doomed to repeat the same mistakes day after day, year after year, and some would argue, life after life ? because they never took the time to look within. You, dear reader, do not have to become a casualty of the fates. What have you learned about yourself this past year, and how do you wish to improve yourself in 2010? Exorcise more, go to University, start a business, find your soul mate? It?s all good. The tradition of making New Year resolutions is as old as Babylon, and for good reason. The ancients understood the power of putting thought to paper. Writing down your goals is the first step in realizing the thoughts you map out on your mental canvas.

2010 promises to be no ordinary year, so goal preparedness is more important than ever. As economic stability continues it?s unprecedented downward spiral, many forecasters predict a collapse of the dollar, the effects of which will reverberate across the world. The year is noted within some esoteric circles as a time of unraveling of the old paradigm to usher in a new epoch - known in more common vernacular as the Age of Aquarius, ultimately culminating as the capstone of ?The Great Work.? I am more familiar with the term great work in its application toward the individual and his personal efforts to spiritually evolve. If man is indeed a microcosm of the creative force than he too experiences cyclical patterns (ages) of spiritual import.

I don't think i have made any New years resolution without some regret associated with it (not positive in that way i guess). I guess this last year i have put on a bit of muscle so next year it would be about toning up a bit. Mmm... getting out of my crap neighborhood would make a worthy resolution also. More peace would flow into my life if i did so. Besides those goals all my current goals will follow on into next year as usual.

I started a thread on New Year resolutions and I forgot to mention any of my own. For starters, I need to stop staying up so late every night and I need to figure out how it started in the first place so I can reverse the trend. Mind you, I see nothing inherently wrong with being a night owl. The problem is, the rest of the world gets up at the freakin' crack of dawn so I am often rudely awakened by some early bird making my phone ring. That, and businesses tend to close at 5pm in these parts. By the time I'm up and out the door these places are getting ready to shut their doors. :)

i want to be who I WANT TO BE

If only everyone had this attitude. Sounds like a winning self-help book title, actually. My observation has been folk are more concerned about appeasing the culture creators who force them into pre-ordained molds than following their own truth. They do this at their own peril, and at the expense of their own uniqueness.

getting out of my crap neighborhood would make a worthy resolution also.

A worthy resolution if there ever was one. Humans have been compared to electrical conductors/batteries (remember the Matrix film?) that both absorb/release energy. For myself, the low-frequency energies which dominate urban centers proved an inhospitable habitat for personal evolution. I spent much of my waking hours devising ways to leave these densely populated areas until at last I found the outback.

yea, i hate people who start threads and don't even give their own input :) well, i am like you. a night owl. you can tell by the time of this post. i usually go to bed around 2-3 am but it wont be my new years resolution to change that. i like the night and i also like knowing i am the only one up. i can relate to the phone calls. so i keep my phone right next to me so if i do wake up, i just look at the caller id.

now i don't believe in new years resolutions because i don't think one should be forced on a certain day to change themselves. BUT! if i were to make one, i would say i am going to try harder to work on my website at least an hour a day. i recently moved about 3 months ago and it seems like i have no motivation and it doesn't even feel i have settled in yet. so i do want to force myself to spend an hour a day on average to work on my website. i was used to spending 3-4 hours on misc. internet work... but that went all to crap when i moved.

It seems like I'm making the same resolution year after year. And by now I don' think mine is considered new year's resolution anymore... It's more like the resolution that I never accomplished and just now getting to it. HA HA HAAs I age and just piled with stress, I find myself eating a lot especially at my desk. Long hours of sitting and just being immobile I have gained substantial weight that I must lose to keep my figure :)And to achieve my resolution I need to do combination of things. To lose some weight I must sleep on time, do not snack after dinner, watch my meal portion, what what I shove down my stomach, don't use food as stress relief, ... ... ... well you get the idea.I feel that my metabolism is not what it used to be. I feel growing each time I eat. My belly gets bigger, bigger, bigger and it won't go down. Let this year be better than years before.

I never really make any New Year resolutions. From past experiences, things will happen and take priority over the resolutions during the course of the year. Eventually, the resolutions remain unfulfilled and uncompleted.

My New Year's Resolution is both realistic and I've stuck to it so far! Sure, that's only two days, but I'm working on making it into a habit. Basically, every so often I go through a spell of doing a bit of exercise each morning to work off a few pounds or tone up a bit. Nothing much, maybe ten pressups and twenty situps. Easy enough to do, and certainly not time consuming. For some reason, most likely forgetfullness or being a bit rushed as I wake up late for work or whatever, I never tend to keep up this routine for longer than a few weeks.

Well...here comes attempt number sixty seven (or something like that). I figure if I make it a New Year's resolution then I should find it a bit easier to stick to, whether that be because I remember it more easily or due to wanting to say that I've suceeded. Conversations can go along the lines of:

"So what's your New Year resolution?"

"Oh, I'm doing a bit of exercise every day. Managed a month of it now!"

As opposed to:

"So what's your New Year's resolution?"

"Well...it was to do a bit of exercise every day, but I kind of caved in after a week..."

Nothing like avoiding an awkward or embarassing conversation that could happen as motivation to keep up with the exercise! As a side note: yes, I know it's quite possibly one of the most overused resolutions out there (or variations of it, like "lose weight", "build up some muscle" or whatever), but I personally reckon that making it much simpler than some arbitary goal (e.g. "lose X pounds") which has no time limit or regularity then you've got no real inspiration or motivation to do it. Keeping it short, simple and regular is not only making it more likely that I'll actually do it, but is quite probably a heck of a lot better for my body than "binge exercise".

Yeah, im the same i don't think ill ever be at peace amongst the riff raff. Its like your always running and they are always trying to impose and cause disturbance in your life. I get fed up looking over my shoulder always trying to take note of something trivial to satisfy peoples wants, because i "know" half the time they are not reasonable and i have troubles pretending that i think otherwise.

Despite the disagreements my company can cause, i don't see why i should agree and play along with something that i see as wrong or being another ignorant participant in a society leading itself astray. To some degree this is unavoidable for me to be like, its who i am and i cant escape it.

For the sake self preservation i often spend time alone, which is good and bad. The company of other people in my local area bores me, i feel like telling them put down the sticks and read a book for a change!

Resolutions???? Actually, I like me pretty much the way I am. I'm so nearly perfect why would I want to change anything about me??? :) Sure, I could make resolutions about working harder, loosing weight, quiting smoking, and all that jazz, but if I made them and then broke them, I would just feel bad about it and why do something to intentially lower one's self estiem? So, if I loose weight, fine, that would be great. And I probalby will. But why add the preasure of forcing yourself to improve? There is enough day to day problems to suffer threw without making things worse by making promices you can't keep. Be happy everyone!

Several years ago, I made a resolution to not make New Year's resolutions.I've not broken that one yet.(usually, though, I resolve to write the date correctly on checks...)

Well, I've been resolving to lose about 10 pounds of pure blubber that's accumulated around my waist each week for the past four months or so. I doubt making it a "new years" resolution will help, but what the hay, I'll resolve to do it again. More importantly, I resolve to accumulate considerably more material possessions including at least 10 pounds of silver and several ounces of gold if I can. Don't forget, he who dies with the most toys and stuff, wins. I think I'm a lap or two behind, so it's high time I started making up for it... Must replace one of the vehicles this year too. I'm going to need a pretty good job to accomplish any of this...

my resolution for new year is more important than any other work i have done before because this new year i want to give something of mine to my father.he has done a lot upto 25 years for me.now i think, its the time to give him back the things that i should return as love,,respect and my shoulder on which he could rely.i wanna give my papa the dreams true which he has seen for me in open and close eyes.

my new year resolution is to become a better son of my paa.

Thank the gods for Mac auto-save. On New Year Resolutions, 2010:

yea, i hate people who start threads and don't even give their own input :)

Indeed. Then again, I hate people in general - but in an impersonal, loving, subjective sort of way. Something about a species that kills for sport, rapes for the thrill of it, and blindly embraces lies over truth just rubs this misanthropic oddball the wrong way. Then there are those rare folk who rise out of the muck and filth to eventually qualify as human. And as much as I admire them from afar I claim no membership in their lofty ranks. I too frequently find myself chasing my own tail in this relentless wheel of life, and am still very much in the process of attempting to free my soul (tipareth) from this prison planet. Sadly, the fates seem to throw just enough curve balls to prevent the mass of men from realizing their divine birthright, and I am no acceptation. Perhaps man as a collective should declare a new and united resolution: Screw the Fates!
I wasnt always a night owl, but Ive never been a true early bird either. When I was doing music for a living I was forced to acclimate to a pseudo swing-shift schedule, waking up around noon, starting work at eight or nine pm, and quitting anywhere between 2 or 4am depending on which state I happened to be working in at the time. Nevada was a killer. Casinos expect five hour sets from their musicians. Ouch. Still, the schedule came more naturally than the standard blue collar slave shift of 8am to 5pm. And who the hell wakes up at 4am on their own volition? As some of you already know I live in the rural hinterland. Few of my neighbors hold jobs that require them to be anywhere at a specific time. They farm, they operate cottage industries, they log their own land. In short, they do not have to wake up at 4 freakin am every morning, yet thats what they choose to do. One neighbor, who is a school teacher (shudders), is required to report to her government post at 8am. She is one mile from this structure. Do you think shed wake up a reasonable 6am (she is a mere mile from the school)? Oh no, she has to be like everyone else around here and wake up at 4 am. I am an annoying anomaly in these parts.

I understand the cynicism toward New Year resolutions. Who defines the start of the year, anyway? Our current calendar system is, if memory serves, based on the Julian/Roman worship of the two-faced god, Janus (January). Prior calendars started with spring and autumn solstice, respectively - a far cry from the dead of winter. The Chinese, in their pre-communist ingenuity, came up with a calendar that actually reconciled the first two. So yes, mark your resolutions throughout the year and as you see fit, but also tap into the collective consciousness that unwittingly lends power to specific days. Its not so much a respect for a tradition that, in my view, deserves none, but the pragmatic ability to ride the psychic tide for all its worth.

as I age....

I do lots of things at my desk, little of which have anything to do with work. Perish the thought! Stuffing my face is one of them. And when Im not shoving food in my face, Im washing it down with alcoholic beverage of choice, which at this time of year happens to be Scotch.
For myself, Ive found I can imbibe in copious quanties of either substance with impunity as long as they are of the highest quality. In other words, the beer must be bottle-conditioned and from a non-fluoridated source. Budweiser is not spoken of in these parts. The Tequila must be 100% agave, not some chemically compromised substitute. The food, if at all possible, should be organic and free of genetically modified organisms. Unfortunately, this means eliminating the convenience foods most folk have grown accustomed to. The neuro-toxin, Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) was struck from my shopping list years ago. Avoiding it means avoiding most pre-packaged foods, as it presents itself in many guises: natural flavors, hydrolyzed protein, etc. The other players in weight gain are high-fructose corn syrup, genetically modified organisms, processed oils (Canola), and Bovine Growth Hormone. As most folk have little time to cook everything from scratch avoiding all convenience foods is hardly practical. There seems to me a concerted effort on the part of our corporate controllers to make us all fat, dumb, and happy. The better for them to carry out their draconian agendas
