Xp Pro Wont Recognize Sata Dvd Drive

Recommended Posts

I just bought and installed a new Sony Optiarc SATA DVD drive in my pc running XP Pro. The bios recognizes the drive on IDE Channel 3 but XP does not. I did the registry hack found in another post but it did not work. I did an Add New Hardware hardware scan and it did not find it either. I have two ATA hard drives and one ATA DVD drive already installed. Any ideas??

You need to find the box that your motherboard came in and look for a CD called motherboard drivers or something similar and install the according SATA controller Driver for your motherboard. If you did'nt build the computer by yourself go to the manufacturer's website and go to their drivers and downloads section and download the SATA driver for your computer.AND IF, that does'nt work google the model number of your motherboard / computer + Sata Driver eg. " DELL 1234 SATA driver". if you don't know what kind of motherboard you have you can use a free application called cpu-z in order to find out.
