Xp In Wrong Language

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section?Hi AllI hope someone has a quick reply for me :) I bought a new laptop yesterday. It is bilingual (French English). Somehow, on initial set-up, it only installed FRENCH.I can't complete the set-up since all instructions are now in French. I've attempted to go into DOS mode to re-format and start all over again, but those instruction are also in French.I don't have access to the "start menu" yet, since set-up hasn't been completed.I've contacted the manufacturer, and they advised me to purchase their Recovery CD for a "nominal fee$", however, their laptop doesn't have a CD-drive (optical drive)! lol. Therefore, I would also need to purchase an optical drive to accomplish the task the manufacturer suggested. Should I take my chances and complete the set-up in French? Will I be able to change the entire OS language to English after doing so? Thanks!!!!

Well, the one time I was trying to do this, I was unable to because I did not have Win XP Pro. However, according to this thread ( http://forums.xisto.com/topic/42333-how-to-change-windows-xp-language/ ), you can change the language by installing the English version of SP3 after finishing with the French install. The instructions are included in that thread. Best of luck.

By the way, if the manufacturer hasn't provided a CD / CD drive, there should be a hidden partition on your hard drive that contains the setup files so that you can reinstall Windows in case the installation becomes corrupted / unusable. Ask your manufacturer how to activate that partition and restart the installation process.

Regards,

z.
