freenrg 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Hi, I was testing access times for gamma.xisto.com and useing traceroute, etc.I came across this IP to geolocation tool that is reporting GAMMA.xisto.com server (and several other xisto servers) to be located in India:http://www.ip2location.com/demo/208.87.243.146 IP Address Country Region City Latitude/ Longitude ZIP Code Time Zone 208.87.243.146 INDIA - - 28.6 77.2 - +05:30 Net Speed ISP Domain COMP XISTO NETWORKS -IDD Code Area Code Weather Station91 - INXX0142 - NEW DELHI/SAFDARJUNG I think this may be incorrect and misleading to people who want their websites to be hosted in the US. I think the server is located in the LA area in California (correct me if I am wrong).I am not sure what you need to do to update this information, but I suggest you try to have this updated. freeflashclocks 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) I alreay know that for a long time, i make traceroutes myself whenever i try a free hosting and paid hosting service, but a whois query would do the job too, not with all the info a complete traceroute command would give but, it is enough. While they may not provide the full and correct information in your point of view, does not matter really, the hosting is good nonetheless. You could have the best hardware, in the best data center with the best connection to an internet backbone, but it the data center is in, let us say, Argentina, and your audience is located in India, for example, then your audience will experience slow and irregular access times to your website. That is because the number of hops is high and internet traffic becomes more relevant as physical distance grows. My intended audience is in Spain. If the servers are in India, this is not optimal. I may be OK, but certainly not the best solution. I think in that case I would have problems. The WHOIS search provides no information on geographical location of the server. Finally, my suggestion is not directed to Xisto as a complaint. I really think it is beneficial to their growth that the geographical location associated to GAMMA server's IP on http://www.ip2location.com/ is corrected. I have done quite a bit of testing and I do not believe the servers are in India (if they are, then the connection from India to Walnut, California, USA is very very good)Potential customers in the US and Europe may check the location with http://www.ip2location.com/ and disregard Xisto and Xisto - Web Hosting as a candidate supplier for their hosting needs.Keep in mind Xisto - Web Hosting is not only free hosting, they also have pay customers. Tenshi 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 Yeah ip2location.com seems to be wrong because when I traced it using http://network-tools.com/default.asp?prog==208.87.243.146 I get 208.87.243.146 is from United States(US) in region North America so I am sure we can confirm now that the servers are indeed from the US
