My Computer Hangs It hangs frequently when I play Ragnarok Online

Recommended Posts

So here's the deal. I have this computer for I think 3 years now. Then one of this days it started to hang. It hangs when I'm playing Ragnarok Online, but as of the moment, I'm just surfing the internet and everything is fine. I don't know what the problem is. I've formatted this several times thinking that the problem was a virus. I also have a habit of turning of the computer by the AVR, I mean I don't shut it down properly. Could it be the case? I just thought that if i keep doing that maybe some parts of my pc will be damaged. I don't really know what's the problem here.

Here's the info of my pc.

so the pentium d is the dual core? do you know what model number? i have the pentium d 805 which is a dual core @2.66 but i have it overclocked...your graphics card is a little outdated and thats the only thing that i can think can cause that problem.what web browser are you using?try using firefox or google chrome....are you planning on upgrading? i would upgrade the graphics card and a bigger hard drive.

I dont quite know how your problem would arise, hell, i don't even know what you mean by 'hang'. But i'd just like to say that I'm using the same graphics card as you (older driver version by a month) and i have the same storage capabilities as you as far as Hard Drive goes, you have more RAM and a better processor. And i play a bunch of games on my computer without any problems that are noticeable/effect my game play. Perhaps it's your internet connection or the video card has gone bad somehow and when the computer demands more out of it, it does whatever 'hanging' is. Sorry i cant be of more help. Also, you're using Service pack 2, the latest is Service Pack 3. don't quite think that would effect it though...

I think there's really something damaged in this pc. Cause right now I'm just browsing and everything is fine. Later when I'll play eventually it will hang. So do you guys think that the prob is the vidcard?Note: As I said before I shutdown the computer improperly. Could it also damage the parts of my computer?

I highly doubt that shutting it down improperly can damage it. I used to shut my computer down like that all the time when it would normally take 5 minutes for it to fully shut down and nothing was wrong with it. I think that the only thing shutting down properly does is saves any changed settings, or positioned files on the desktop, (i noticed that new files i put on the desktop wouldn't stay in the right location until properly shut down) but yeah that's about it i think. Try unplugging the video card and using the internal one? (if there is one), or plugging in an alternate video card if you have one.

Acer Aspire M5641 Problems~My Computer Hangs

I have a problem with my Aspire M5641... I was playing Mabinogi one day.. And all of a sudden my Aspire froze up.. I couldn't even load Task Manager.. The whole thing went dead. So I manually turned off the computer.. After that, I rebooted. I went to play Mabinogi again.. Same problem.. Froze up earlier this time though.. After that.. Manual reboot.. Open it up.. I get the option to Let Windows repair automatically (Recommended). I load that.. I get a blue screen instead of a fix. Now it won't finish with the Blue screen and restart! So I manually reboot again.. Now it does the same thing.. Goes to Let windows repair.. Blue screen.. Manual reboot.. Then I try Run windows normally.. I do.. Doesn't load up fully.. Half way through the loading screen..My monitor goes into sleep mode.I turn my monitor on.. Goes back into sleep mode. I manually reboot. Same problem as before.. Loads half way, and then bails to sleep mode..  Changed monitors, same problem. Waited 24 hours and dusted.. Now I turn it on. I hear it load up.  And my monitor doesn't even do anything.. Just the computer is on. I switch with 3 different monitors.. Exact same problem.. As I write this.. I still have the same problem! Any help would be very appreciated! Thankies~ :3

Computer hang-up after a few minuters, then No Signal dispaly on monitorMy Computer Hangs

I encoutered that problem several times before until now. I usually dettach the Processor, Memory then clean them up. After that, Turn on your Pc. Try to restore your computer recent settings. To restore go to all programs > accessories > system tools > symtem retore. If the problem still excess, try re-install the vc driver.

The "hanging" (or "freezing", as I used to call it) can have a number of reasons.

In case of ransackthenation, if it only happens when he plays Ragnarok, it might be (as I look at his specs) a lack of memory, I see ransackthenation only has 1 Gb of RAM, that is not a lot for the ever more and more demanding OSs, programs and games we get these days.

I think it would be worth trying to at least double your RAM, making it 2 GB, or even more if you have the space (slots) and/or if you can afford it, although, 1Gb to 2 Gb sticks cost next to nothing now, while 4 Gb sticks have also come down considerably in price.

However, as for the freezing some other people are talking about here, there could be a number of reasons:

Viruses/Spyware

A hardware problem

A piece of software causing problems

A RAM corruption

Computer overheating

Problems with the BIOS

For the first one, obviously always make sure your Antivirus/AntiSpyware software is up o date and check regularly.

Although, there is a trick for more drastic cases:

I had a problem, when I clicked on Google, I got sent to advertising websites, and on top of thet, my Windows Update refused to work.

I was advised (as you would imagine) to scan for viruses and spyware (which I did regularly anyway), the problem was, all my scans came back clear.

I was then advised to download the Windows malicious software removal tool from Microsoft's website, start up my PC in Safe mode and run the tool.

Mind you: if you have a PC with lots of programs installed on it, and lots of files on the hard drive, this might take a long time, so, better to start it late at night and to leave your computer on overnight.

However, when I did as advised, ie. boot up in Safe Mode, then run the Windows malicious software removal tool and doing a full scan, when the scan was finished, I got the message that malware was found and cleaned, and the whole problem was forgotten.

I explained what fault my PC had developed, but it is worth taking a measure like that if you suffer from a freezing PC too.

Then, for the hardware bit, first of all check your Device Manager and see if it gives any errors on any hardware, if not, if you recently installed new hardware, try removing it and installing it again.

The software one is a more tricky one at times, but the obvious place to start is if you have recently, before the fault began, installed some software.

If so, check it out, and, if you have to, follow the same route as you went on with the hardware: uninstall and re-install the (what might be) the offending bit of software.

In the case of a RAM corruption, download a RAM checker from the Internet (do a Google to find one) and run it.

If it gives no errors, take your RAM out, give it a gentle wipe, blow out your RAM slots and put the RAM back, if not, get in touch with your RAM manufacturer/supplier.

In case of overheating, it might be wise (even if you don't see any problems with the fan and/or system temperatures) to download Speedfan and install it, so you can monitor your system's temperature.

i too had to replace a fan with a stronger one because the one that came built into my PC when I bought it proved to be no good and caused my system to freeze from tie to time. (Among other faults).

Then, the final one, this one might be of interest to the person here reporting the problem after he only bought the PC a week ago (might, might not).

Some years ago I bought a PC on Ebay (can't really call it new, but it was a web shop of a man who custom built PCs.

When I go it, it was a robust machine, lots of room for expansion, decent fan etc., however:

Every so often, the thing froze, so my only option was to switch it off and switch it on again.

As if that wasn't enough, because of the freezing my Windows OS often became corrupted (I used Windows XP at the time) and I had to re-install.

I tried all sorts of things like reformatting, sending for an engineer to look at my PC ("he was only specialised in hardware and didn't know much about software", he claimed), I obviously got in touch with the man who sold me the PC and got nothing but *BLEEP* and bull stories from him.

Then I read (while I was posting about the problem on these forums here) something about a BIOS problem that might be the cause.

I looked what make and model and date my BIOS was, and, lo and behold, when I checked online, there was a newer version available, so i decided to flash my BIOS.

A word of advice here: if you are not sure about things, do not do the above before you have taken proper advice, the step is not that difficult, but if you are not 100% sure, try to ask someone who is first.

I flashed my BIOS, started up my PC again, and I never had the freezing problem again.

(BTW. Flashing your BIOS means as much as updating it).

Hope this post has been of use to some people.

Hay i found this types of problem in my friend desktop computer. After finding many of topics i don't find any solving process. By the way i'm a IT expert from India. This types of problems may occur due to power mismatch/leaking inside your computer.1> check the power supply of SMPS cable is stable.2> check earthing cable is properly working.3> reinstall the motherboard (please use anti connector paper between mother board and cabinet of CPU.4> reinstll the RAM and battery of CPU.It will solve this problem!!
