My Life 1833 slavery is abolished1929 Martin Luther King is bornhe and many others fought for our livesfinally accepted by societybut I?m still living in povertyasking for help but they look at me dirtyso I just spill emotion in all my poetryI ask what makes me so differentdo we not walk on the same planetand speak the same languageyet you?d prefer to lock me in a cageand leave me there till the next ice agewe were born with one clear disadvantagebut like a letter inside a bottlewe swam to deliver one simple messageset us free or prepare for troublenow I?m free I?m constantly reminded ?blacks stay in your place? by those who are simply small mindedbut like the phoenix we rose from the ashesGod spoke to us through the burning bushestold us how to leave adversity behindMy life, I don?t take it for grantedand to those who fight meI won?t easily be defeatedfamily has come and gone fighting for mefighting for a better life for memy life, my lifeGod I ask oh why, oh whyhave you taken my loved onesdoes that mean I?m the next oneliving for my lifeliving for our life
