Tumor Good For The Eyes? Oh, guess not then lol.

True story about my Science teacher

Well my science teacher was telling the whole class once, he had a serious problem with headaches, he kept havving them, getting worse and worse each time. After 2 weeks he went to the doctors, and they said it may be a brain tumor.

They whisked him away to hospital, and did a CAT scan, and they figured out that it wasn't a tumor, but he has a folded rettana, possibly from a knock to the head. (For those who don't know, the rettana is the back of the eye where what you see is processed) He was then told that he was often de-hydrated, and so his collapsed rettana kept contracting (expanding + shrinking) over and over, which had actually changed his vision in his left eye, pushing his eye forward. Now his left eye has perfect vision (Because he used to be short sighted) and he thought "Oh, perfect" Then he was told it wasn't all good. They can't just un-fold the rettana, and so now he is never allowed to be dehydrated, or his left eye will go further and be long sighted. as his right eye is still short sighted this would cause his perception skills to be way off...

He didn't understand why he was dehydrated, he always drinks Tea + Coffee, but he later learned that the caffine in tea and coffee, fools the hypothalamus in the brain, and slows down the rate of ADH (Anti- Diurettic- Hormones) which means he needs to go for a wee, so his body was telling him to go for a wee when he didnt need to.

So, if you're short sighted, punch yourself in the head and dont drink, that should sort it out

Thanks.

Well its a misconception that caffene makes you dehydrated the only drink to avoid is salt water and simular drinks.. i know you wernt saying that but i thought id mention it. Thats pretty cool!!! but then does he were glasses? id just wear a contact lense instead!

That's interesting... and strange... but in any case that's still not what I'd call a *good* solution to the problem of poor vision... just get contact lenses or glasses or if you really don't like those two options, then get laser surgery. Laser surgery is basically perfected right now and is really effective so it's not a bad way to go as opposed to... developing a folded retina??

Thanks.

I tell you that the dehydrated status of him is because damaging or loosing the pituitary gland. It could be damaged because of the trauma pressure or during the operation as I tell you my story with this matter.

I remember 8 years ago,my sight had dropped suddenly. Many specialists couldn't find any defects in my eyes. They said that no operation can be done on my eyes and optometrist couldn't suggest glasses to help. One neurologist suggest to make MRI scan. The scan showed existence of a little tumour in the front of my brain up of the nose. It was suggested that this tumour may be doing pressure on my nerve from eyes to the brain and I have to make operation to get rid of it. I hesitated since I don't imagine that my scull will be broken in the operation. I was running for one year and they are warning me that may be I became blind. Since my eyes are my tool in life, I agreed to do the operation. They removed the tumour through my nose instead of instead of opening the skull to reach the brain . They removed the tumour but they damaged the very tiny gland which called pituitary Gland. The pituitary gland secretes hormones that govern the onset of puberty, sexual development of reproductive function.and sexual characteristic, mussels, hair, voice beside many other activities not related to women functions ( breast milk production, menstrual cycles, infertility, vaginal dryness, ...) Also it is responsible for the water levels in the body. Also this gland activate other gland functions.

After the operation and loosing the pituitary glad, I have Hypopituitarism. Because the pituitary gland affects the other endocrine organs, effects of hypopituitarism may be gradual or sudden and dramatic. I gained weight(30 km), I become dehydrate

They give me a hormone replacement therapy. I take tablets for Roxine, Cortisone.

As a caution of heart diseases, I have to take three medicine plus anti-cholesterol tablets.

For not being dehydrate and to control myself and to not be wet and control my urine, I have to puff minirin nasal in my nose on the night and morning.

For edema in my feet (swallow feet), I have to take some tablets plus potassium supplements.

Now I can not leave my place for long times. So I have to retire and sit in front of the computer many hours and shuttle between the computer, fridge to drink and Toilette .

When I go out I took puff minrin nasal to keep me out without running to public toilette or feeling thirsty. Moreover I took these puff in nose before sleep to not wake up at night or become wet.

So his doctor have to give something like that to replace the roll of the pituitary glad.

Why yes, it is strange. I know its not the perfect solution, and before any numpty's try smacking themselves in the head, I WAS JOKING! Thats a bad way to solve it... though it would be cheaper than Laser Eye Surgery... lol. And yes, my teacher now wears one contact, which has upset him cause he used to need 2, and he had colored ones (White so you could only see the pupil, they looked ace) and now he can only wear one for fear of damaging his eye,

Wow, thats some bad stuff right there. We've been learning about all this in science, thats why my teacher told us the story of his eyes. Good job you got hormone medication. The pituatary gland and hypothalamus are really important for working your kidneys, you mess either of those 3 up and there could be serious consequences, look after yourself.

The pituatary gland controls the release of ADH (Anti-diurettic-hormones) And these hormones (Depending on how much hormone is released from pituitary gland) tell the kidneys how much urine to disperse into the bladder. Now I'm sure you can see there could be some very..uhm.. embarrasing results, if you aint careful.

Look after yourself, and thanks for the posts guys XD

Thanks
