Always Hungry

Recommended Posts

Hi. I do not know if this is the right forum to post this in, so sorry if it is.I have a horrible problem. This is an extremely annoying problem, that I really hate. Every morning I eat three slices of dark bread. I need 30 minutes everyday so I can eat breakfast. I do not have more time to eat, if I did I would eat more. Three slices is much... most of my friends eats one, and some nothing. After about one hour at school I get hungry. Really hungry. My tummy makes these horrible noises, and I always hate when some of my classmates notice this. I eat and eat, but I always get hungry really quickly. I am not fat at all. My friends always tells my how thin I am, and that they would wish they looked like me. But I hate it. Do you have any idea of how horrible it makes me feel? I am 161 cm tall, and 53 kg. So I need some help, or advice from you.Got any advices about what I can eat, so I do not get hungry? Or anything else? I would really appreciate your help, because this is something that bothers me everyday at school.

Instead of eating just toast in the morning, you could eat serial. I'm sure that doesn't take longer than it does to have 3 slices of toast. Do you have weetbix in your country? Its healthy and its really filling. If you eat enough of that in the morning, it should help you out with your problem.

No, I don't think we have weetbix here... never heard of it. After some time I get really tired of cerial, bread too. I always need to find something new I can eat, but that is not very simple. I need a lot of food, and for me it seems like whatever I eat, I get hungry.

If you're always hungry then there might a medical reason for that.Have you talked to your doctor about this? It might be a good idea to have some blood tests done to see if you're diabetic. Constantly being hungry is one of the symptoms.

No, I have never even thought about asking my doctor. For me, it seems like I need to eat more - or different things. But maybe you have got a point.

I hope you do go to see your doctor about this.If he/she finds nothing wrong with you, then that's good! But on the other hand, if there is a medical reason for the constant hunger, then it would be much better to find out as soon as possible and do something about it.I wish you all the best with this :)

Hi. I do not know if this is the right forum to post this in, so sorry if it is.
I have a horrible problem. This is an extremely annoying problem, that I really hate.

Did you have this problem before? It might be a defiency of some kind , making your stomach react. If you go out grocery shopping with your family , ask around for filling foods. If you are thin , it might be becuase you are so used to eating so much , that your stomach has adapted to producing more acids to dissolve the food. If you chew gum , that might be part of the problem. It brings up acids in your stomach, so then making you hungry.Try to eat a little bit less for quite a while. Your metabolism will adapt to it , and soon enough you'll be able to eat less. I can't say I've had this problem , neither would I want to either =/.

No, I have never even thought about asking my doctor. For me, it seems like I need to eat more - or different things. But maybe you have got a point.

If the problem persists , then a doctor would probbaly be the best option. Most times you can something without subscription. Tell your parents what you are experincing , so you can perhaps get ome subsription mediacation to combat the problem.

Hopefully I've helped =]

I am not on a diet, and I don't want to be on one eather. I am happy with my weight, and how I look. All the exercise I do every week, is at gym at school. (And sometimes soccer or handball at home.)

3 slices of dark bread. Do you have similar variety in your other meals? Seriously, let's take a look at this for a moment; rail thin, socially self conscious and always hungry. You're probably between 13 and 16 and still growing/developing. Am I close? Well, assuming I'm right I'll give you the advice that I would give anyone of any age.

1) Relax. Until you can "pinch an inch" how much you eat is not a problem, and the extra stress can hinder your efforts to gain an education. (Or if you ever face being overweight, losing it.)

2) As a growing girl you currently need more food than you eventually will but the key principle is to eat healthy foods, a variety of healthy foods. Try adding a fruit you like to your breakfast, especially one that can be eaten on the go. When you feel hungry have a granola bar or another food with grains, when you've got the munchies try raw veggies, like carrot sticks or salad makings, and when your sweet tooth makes demands go for fruit.

3) Try to stay away from junk food. Sometimes you will have to eat and it will be all that is available which is okay as long as it is not a daily part of your diet. Firstly, something swimming in grease is too much grease, we need some oil in our diet but only a little(and fish oil is best.) Secondly, prepackaged, hyper-preserved, longer-shelf-life-than-dirt foods are harder for our bodies to process for less nutrition.

If you continue to have problems after applying these principles consider consulting a nutrition specialist. They are generally nice people just looking for an opportunity to help someone.

It sounds like you have really high metabolism. You could be blessed, or it could be an overactive thyroid. In ten years, if it is still high, your friends will be secretly jealous.I don't mean to get too personal, and please don't answer this out loud, but are your bowel movements regular? It's like that song from Scrubs, "Everything Comes Down to Poo." That could help determine if there's a medical problem or not.Bread is not that filling unless it is whole grains, and that shouldn't be the only thing you should eat for breakfast. Try adding eggs, since the protein in them will help with that full filling. Also, try a piece of fruit. So maybe instead of three pieces of toast for breakfast, you should have one slice, an apple and a boiled egg, or some similar variety.I think it's okay to be really hungry in the morning. I mean, the stomach hasn't had a chance to eat anything while you are sleeping.Discuss your concerns with your family doctor or your school nurse. As well-intentioned as we all are, I don't think most of us have any medical backgrounds.

Haha. That's a funny question. I have a high metabolism myself Bluebear. I guess we are one alike. Through my personal experience, eating healthy and stacking on calories when you can is what does you best. I just recently started packing a second lunch haha.

Let us answer some questions now, shall we?

3 slices of dark bread. Do you have similar variety in your other meals? Seriously, let's take a look at this for a moment; rail thin, socially self conscious and always hungry. You're probably between 13 and 16 and still growing/developing. Am I close?

Yes, you are very close.

I do eat a banana for breakfast sometimes, and then we get some free fruit or vegetables at school. The only other thing I, (and everybody else) eat at school is bread. You said that food with grains would be a nice thing, but that is kind of hard at school....

3) Try to stay away from junk food.

Haha, if you mean things like hamburgers and such from McDonalds, then I can say the nearest one is one hour away. I barely eat junk food, maybe when I am in town but very rarely. Eating a pizza after school once a week isn't actually a bad thing.

I don't mean to get too personal, and please don't answer this out loud, but are your bowel movements regular?

Haha, I'll answer that one. :o I had some problems regarding finding out what you are meaning, but I think I got it at last.

When I am hungry, they do. It's the only way I can feel that I am hungry. And to be honest; that is actually the problem I don't like at all. It's horrible, simply horrible.

All the food I eat kind of disappear. I know that since I am this young I need a lot of food. But I eat much, and then I mean much more food than any of my friends. They barely eat, and they never get hungry? An I eat as often I can, but still I am hungry, and I am not gaining weight? I can't say I really want to gain weight, but it's really weird.

*sigh* I used to have a high metabolism... An experience of a brother-in-law of mine was similar; tall, gangly and definitely underweight for his height. He was on the basketball team and to try to add a little mass to his frame the coach had him eat a half gallon of ice-cream every day, it still took time for him to fill out at all, he's still skinny as a rail.

Here's another little factoid; our bodies are better suited to 5-6 small meals in a day than three moderate to heavy meals. Of course you are hungry around midmorning. I don't know where you live or what policy your school has about outside food, but if you can bring something with you for that midmorning tummy rumble... well, if it's possible, a granola bar would be easiest, half a peanut butter sandwich would also deal with the problem but would require getting up a little earlier to make it(and if you're getting up earlier you might as well have a more filling breakfast) but easier, and maybe most fun of all, again if you can take food to school, would be a little recipe called Peanut Butter Candy. The ingredients are available pretty much anywhere; Peanut Butter, Honey and Powdered Milk. Yes, protein packed with a little healthy carbs for boost.

Here's the directions: There are no specific amounts, brands of peanut butter vary too much to make that possible, but start with a smallish bowl like a cereal or salad bowl and scoop a few large spoonfuls of peanut butter into it. Then press a divot in the middle of it with the back of the spoon, much like preparing mashed potatoes for gravy, and fill divot with Honey, about what will stick to the size of spoon you used for the Peanut Butter or 1/4 to 1/5 the amount of Peanut Butter. In the matter of the Honey you can always add more so start with a little and work your way to the right consistancy. Speaking of consistancy, the next step is to mix it up until the PB and Honey mixture self-adheres and comes away from the sides of the bowl. If there's no change when the Honey is fully mixed in, add more Honey; if it's too sticky add more Peanut Butter. Continue to work with it until the entire mixture is in a ball(loosely speaking) in the middle of the bowl. Finally, when you are satisfied with the consistency of the mixture it's time to add the Powdered Milk. Spoon some Powdered Milk around the PB and Honey ball and start working it in much like kneading bread but use the spoon. And remember, don't start with a lot of Powdered Milk, you will add more but too much at any time just makes a mess. Keep working in Powdered Milk by the spoonful until the mixture is malleable, like playdough. Pat mixture out into a squarish shape 3/4 inch or 2 cm. thick on a piece of plastic, enough to wrap it with, or into a plastic container, and cut with a butter knife into squares about 3/4 inch or 2 cm. and wrap. Refrigerate to make stiff like cookie dough or to preserve portions for more than two days. To take to school place desired amount(recomend 4-6 cubes to start) in small container or wrap in secure plastic wrap or baggie. Warning: the Peanut Butter Candy will 'sweat' a light coating of the Peanut Butter oils, do not wrap in fabric or keep in pocket.

And Bluebear, I get to enjoy pizza once a week, too, though I have to toss mine in the oven. :o

eat something with some substance.only toast and fruit, even if it is whole grain, is nothing but carbs.... it will cause your blood sugar to sky rocket and then an hour later it crashes... which is why you are hungry an hour later.Try making sure you get carbs, fat, and protein.... every single person needs all 3 at every meal and don't let anyone tell you anything else.personally, i think eggs or egg whites are about the best breakfast food there is... maybe a couple eggs and a slice of toast would suit you better at breakfast.diets that cut out all of the fat or all of the carbs will hardly ever be succesful. For starters, your cravings for the food source you eliminate will grow unbearable, and second of all your body uses carbs, fats, and proteins for essential things neither of the other two can provide, which makes it very very hard on your body.and when you're at your age, you dont wanna starve yourself, you'll regret it when you're older and you stunted your growth.
