DeM0nFiRe's Pokémon Starter Kit
For use with RPG Maker XP

Preface/ General Info: Way back when I first got RPG Maker XP, I was amazed at the things it let you do. You could create full games without any programming knowledge at all. As I continued to explore RPG Maker XP, I learned what all game developers must come to realize in time: really good games need programming. When I decided I wanted to make a Pokemon game, I soon became aware that there was simply no way to do it without some type of scripting. Several times I had thought I had found my luck: A Pokemon Starter Kit. Unfortunately, it turned out that these kits I had found were incomplete. I made a few feeble attempts at splicing the kits together, but it was to no avail. At long last, I decided I had to give my dreams of creating a pokemon game to rest. Several months later, I began exploring the wondrous thing that was RGSS. RGSS, a child of Ruby, is the scripting langauge for RPG Maker XP. As I began to learn RGSS, and with it all the basics of Object Oriented Programming, It began to dawn on me that this was what was needed to make that pokemon game. I set to work to create this Starter Kit to be my debut as a scripter. Since I started this project, I've made another debut into scripting, and have even moved on to full programming, however nothing I have completed has been attempted by as many people as this starter kit. Now I am working concurrently on this Starter Kit and also another game of equal ambition, and it is now a close race as to which one will be finished first.

Features:

Eerything you need to make a pokemon game using RPG Maker XP Including, but not limited to:

-Pokemon Battle System
-Pokemon Menu System
-Pokemon PC System
-Pokemon Electronic Assistant System
-Pokemon Party System
-Pokemon Catching System

-Graphical Data Editors for Ease of Use

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. Can you please give me the pokemon scripts?
A. As soon as I have them finished and tested, everyone will get them at the same time.

Q. Can you help me with my pokmeon game?
A. Well, why don't we wait on that. Without the scripts you can't make one anyways, and I won't give anyone any of teh scripts until they are all done. Perhaps after the kit is finished if you need help with it or extra systems I can help.

Q. Do you have a demo for us?
A. Because it has been taking me longer than I originally said, I will prepare a public tech demo when the Battle System is complete. After that, all testing will be closed beta only.

Q. Can I be a closed beta tester?
A. No, for the most part all of my beta testers are chosen. If I notice you being particularly active and supporting I may, however, ask you to be a tester.

Q. When will you finish?
A. I'm not going to stick my footin my mouth anymore by giving a deadline I can't meet. I have alot going on right now, so this will take quite a while to complete. Think of it this way, if you're active in the threads you'll be the first to know when it is finished.

Q. How much have you got done so far?
A. I wil let you guys know whenever I have an update. Becuase I have to change things around alot, I can't give a percentage so please do not ask for one.

Sounds good so far DeM0nFiRe. I believe there is already a pokemon starter kit for RPG Maker XP right? I think it was those guys who released that pokemon game on RMXP. That should help you with the battlesystems and menu systems. Actually, it would be easier if you started or turned this into a RPG Maker VX pokemon starter kit, since the graphics are a lot simpler.

Well, to the best of my knowledge, there are no perfectly working Pokemon Starter Kits for RPG Maker XP. I know one has been recently released, but I've heard it is not all that easy to use. I'm trying to make mine as easy as possible for everyone to use.

What about RPG Maker 2003?

Dem0nfire's Pokemon Starter Kit

I need a pokemon starter kit that works with the RPG Maker 2003. I can't find it no matter how much I try, and I have been eager to make my own Pokemon RPG for a while now. Can you make one or send one to me?

I was wondering if you give out these scripts what kind of license it will be under. Also I was wondering if I could use them and change them to my needs to make a different yet related type of game.Pokemon isn't really my style however the idea behind collecting creatures and breeding them and battling them is kinda kewl and I have some interesting spins I would like to put on the whole idea. With you doing this scripting then it would be easier to edit the stuff you are doign rather then make my own stuff from scratch.Would you take offense to this kind of use of yoru scripts? (If i can use them in this way I would obviously credit you in the credits for the game.)

@Wyatt: For now, I am not releasing any individual scripts, sorry.@Kain: Well, the starter kit will be completely free to use, however what i splanned now is a splash screen will be required at the startup of your game saying something like "Made with DeM0nFiRe's pokemon Starterkit" Other than that, I plan on imposiing no restrictions.@Chris: Sorry, I only work with RMXP. Theoretically a pokemon game could be done in RM2k/3 through event scripting.

This looks really promising (Y)

Any ideas about when you will finish it?

Hm, this sounds VERY interesting, as I would love to make a Pokemon game using RPG maker, because I honestly do not like to download illegal GBA roms to hack... LOL Becas I don't want to get sued...

You mean 'Pokemon-style' game... because... if you are going to use the name 'Pokemon' (or perhaps even the names of the creatures) some lawyers might come after you... especially if you intend to distribute it. Not very likely, but possible. Just look at what happened to The Silver Lining (formerly KQ9... a fan-based successor to King's Quest 7&8). They were allowed to work on it, but that's a best-case scenario. I'm not 100% sure if it's O.K. when you distribute it for free though... might be okay then.But... it's good to hear people using and expanding RPGmaker... personally I'm a big fan of Laxius Power series (RPG Maker-made) and also Aveyond and Everlong.

BUT no one in their right mind would even think about doing that, unless their stupid and want to go to prison.<IMG src="style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif" emoid="^_^" border="0" style="vertical-align: middle"></P><P>

Actually, it's been put on hold indefinitely. I've had to put it on hold so I can do projects that will get me some money! Being poor isn't fun

I am able to install a Card Shop in to my Pokemon-like game, its going to be sweet. Can't wait to distribute it free to my friends! At the time of that posting I was 17, now I am 18. The problem is that I live about 8 miles from my school, so I need to get a car so I can drive to school when my father cannot drive me. Besides that, I need some solid work to show colleges what I can do and what I can teach myself. A Pokemon Starter Kit wouldn't do that

It Works!Dem0nfire's Pokemon Starter Kit

I have the pack and right now on RMXP I'm making a new Pokemon Game called Pokemon ToxicGreen! I'll probably be putting out a demo and Youtube Trailer soon as I get a little bit finished. My problem though is that I don't know how to make the Pokemon Choosing thing in the lab. Where you are suppose to be able to choose your starter Pokemon. Iv'e got it down pretty much but I don't exactly know how to make it to where you actually get the Pokemon to keep instead of just showing a picture and saying that you got the Pokemon and having the Lady that takes place while Prof. Oak is gone say something different due to switch.
